Before I went to college I really didn't know that many people that lived outside of New Jersey and New York. Because of this, I didn't realize how different the East and West coasts actually are. While procrastinating some homework I was asking my friend Juliana, a Los Angeles native, how she was handling the colder weather. In short, she hates it and still hasn't adapted. But this sparked my interest in other things she and my other West coast friends had to learn once they came out to school on the East Coast.
1. When is it appropriate to wear a coat?
2. How to layer clothes
A sweater with a vest is a classic East Coast fall style.
3. The states are so much smaller
Traveling through 3 states in 2 hours is a luxury out here.
4. People are less environmentally conscious
Since we don't have as many droughts or wildfires, people don't think about the consequences of their actions as much.
5. Pork Roll or Taylor Ham?
When I asked my friends where they stood on the ever popular Pork Roll vs Taylor Ham debate they looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently, breakfast sandwich meat doesn't exist out there!
6. Snow days are awesome
7. How to exercise indoors
If you're used to hiking or mountain biking as your regular means of exercise you're going to have to readjust your definition of a mountain when the Rockies aren't around the corner anymore.
8. What black ice is
It always comes when you're not looking and when everyone else is. Lucky for you West Coast peeps, us East Coasters fall victim, literally, to black ice all the time.
9. People from Boston ~actually~ say wicked
It's not just a myth from the movies, it actually happens!!
