10 Things A College Student Will Miss When Home For the Summer

Even when we're home, we miss our home away from home.

10 Things A College Student Will Miss When Home For the Summer
Shippensburg University

Its about that time of the year where a college student's stress level sky rockets and their anticipation for summer is unbearable. Once we finish our finals and get home for the first time, it's a breath of fresh air. We get to see our family, old friends, sleep in our old beds and start working again. After a certain amount of time though, we miss everything about school. We wish the summer days would fly by so we can get back to our "home away from home" sooner. These are just a few of the many things that a college student will miss when they are home for the summer. How many days until fall move-in day?

1. We miss our freedom.

It can be nice being home with family, but eventually we get tired of people telling us what to do and where to be. At college, we can take naps whenever we want and eat whatever we want for dinner without someone else interfering in that.

2. We miss our friends.

We get so used to seeing our friends everyday that its weird when we go home and can only see them through the tiny screen on our phones.

3. We miss the weekends.

Nothing compares to the weekends on campus with your best friends. Getting all dressed up with each other, taking pictures and dancing the night away are some of the best memories you've had. Now we're stuck spending our Saturday nights working and dreaming of the day we're back at school.

4. We miss how close Starbucks and Dunkin are to us everyday.

Being able to conveniently get coffee whenever you want and wherever on campus is such a nice thing. Yes, we only have to get in our cars and drive a short distance to get our coffee back home, but it's so much better when it is right there when you need it.

5. Oh, and don't forget the flex.

I will miss having that $250 flex most. We are so used to whipping out our IDs and buying lunch whenever we want it. RIP to my bank account balance this summer.

6. We miss always having something to do.

The first few weeks of summer are going to be so nice being able to lay around, do nothing all day and not having to worry about any school work. Eventually, we are going to get bored and try to find things to do, but it's not as easy as it was making plans on campus. We always had somewhere to be or something to do at school, and now we're trying to beg people to go out with us so we don't have to sit at home all day again.

7. We miss the student benefits.

It was so great how the school was always sponsoring events and meetings that we could attend. We could go do something on campus that we enjoyed doing without paying anything. A college student's dream. Now that we're home, you and your friends have to figure out what to do without spending too much cash...

8. We miss the food options around campus.

The variety of food on campus would be able to cure any craving a college student had. From quick savory foods to the healthy options, the dining halls and food vendors around campus can give you anything and everything you are looking for. If we're home and we don't have the food we want in our house (which is usually the case), we'll have to drive to get it AND spend money.

9. We miss how everything is in walking distance.

On campus we could get from the dorm to the dining hall in a matter of minutes and we didn't even have to wake up for class until a half hour before because we could make it to class in a short five minute walk. Now that we're home, we have to get in the car to go somewhere.

10. We miss being on our campus.

We love being a college student, but we love being one on our campus even more. Being home people just assume we are another person in the crowd, but we are much more than that. Little do they know that we are counting the days until we get back to campus with our people and in our second homes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
