In the early years, your big brother is basically just a bully that you live with but as you get older you find that life is much easier if you're on the same side. The person that once made you cry, is now someone that makes you laugh. The one that used to pull pranks on you, now gives you advice. Through all the smiles and tears, not only did you create an unbreakable bond but you learned many things that you never thought you would from your goofy older brother.

Here are ten things every little sister has learned all thanks to their big bro:
1. Patience
Because he tested it so often by repeating everything you said, continuously poking you just to be annoying, stealing the remote so he could watch his show first, or by running into the bathroom so he could shower before you. You quickly learned that all you can do is not give him the satisfaction of getting under your skin.
2. How To Be a Good Sport
He is faster and stronger than you and can beat you in almost everything. It will keep you humble but also motivate you to improve. He will rarely let you win, but if he isn't the one competing with you, he will always be on your side cheering you on.
3. There's Strength in Numbers
There’s a point in your life when your parents think you are nothing more than a bratty teenager and you will need an ally. He will cover for you when you need an excuse and at times, you'll have to do the same for him. When it's kids versus parents, he will be the best teammate you could ask for. If only you had a dollar for every time one of you used the phrase, "oh my gosh, don't tell mom and dad."
4. Boyfriends Won't Always Be There but Brother's Will
Boys will come and go but you can always count on your brother to be there. And sometimes that’s all you need.
5. How To Laugh At Yourself
Because he’s laughed at you enough that you have learned how to lighten up and take a joke. You've also learned how to dish it right back to him.
6. How to Stand Up for Yourself
Back in the day, he used to bully you but you learned when enough was enough and that sometimes you have to stand up for yourself. You know what it feels like to be picked on, teased, tackled, and wrestled and that has taught you not to take sh** from anyone else. And if you ever need him to, he will step in and stand up for you in a heartbeat.
7. Learn From Your Mistakes
Or rather, you learn from his. You now know the best times to sneak out of the house and exactly how to convince your rents to let you spend the night at your friend's house on a school night.
8. How To Be Your Own Person
This is necessary unless you want to live your whole life being "_______'s younger sister". It's important that you find a way to establish yourself as your own individual so you don't spend eternity in your older brother's shadow.
9. How To Be Cool
He was the guinea pig throughout the years, so when it was your turn for your first day of middle school, high school, or college, he had the inside scoop on the do's and don'ts. If it weren't for his advice, you easily could've walked into the wrong classroom, became friends with a bad crowd, or done something stupid that you would regret. No matter what, he was always looking out for you.
Who would've thought that after all of those years of noogies and name-calling that your older brother would actually become your best friend and most trusted companion. You realize that you really wouldn't be who you are (or know how to ride a scooter or throw a football) if it weren't for him. So here's to you, older brothers, for teaching us younger sisters countless life lessons that our parents would never be able to. At times, you made life difficult but we know you love us and we love you too.
