10 Things I Love About My Dad

1. You are protective of me.

When I was younger, it used to frustrate me because I thought that I was capable of handling things on my own, but as I grow up I realize how important your opinion is and how lucky I am to have a father who would defend me against any harm.

2. You make me laugh.

Dad jokes are so important in the daddy/daughter relationship. I especially love when you make social media references, such as “retweet” or when you post a goofy picture on Instagram for your 11 followers to see (five of whom are family members). You and I have the same sixth sense -- a sense of humor.

3. You love the outdoors.

You practically live outside when we are in the mountains. You love to fish, hunt, do carpentry, and even play disc golf. Thanks for going on bike rides with me and taking me hunting at 6 a.m. I have loved every minute of it.

4. You made sure I didn’t grow up too fast.

In elementary school, I wanted to be in middle school. In middle school, I wanted to be in high school. And in high school, I definitely felt like I could take on college. But you made sure that I enjoyed being a kid while I was a kid. And that is something I am so grateful for.

5. You always make Mom feel so special.

Whether it's bringing her flowers, kissing her when you come home from work, or thanking God for her during our dinner prayers, you show Mom how important she is to our family, and give me a wonderful example of a great husband. She deserves the world, and you give it to her!

6. You sing loudly to the radio.

This is one of my favorite times with you, when we are in the car, country music is on, and we are singing at the top of our lungs. You aren’t afraid to be goofy, and you definitely aren’t afraid to show the world.

7. You are a man after God's heart.

Your actions, your devotion, and your unfailing love are a direct result of your relationship with God. I have seen how this impacts others in your workplace, and in your friendships, and it is something that I look up to and want to find in the man I marry, someday.

8. You are so chill.

I don't know anyone who is as calm in craziness as you. I love that when things get hectic, I can look to you and hear you say something like, "Dude, that totally rocks," and know that everything is going to be okay.

9. You make me feel important.

Whether I am telling a story, recounting a memory, or just talking about life with you, you always make sure to give me your full attention. I never feel like you are too busy for me, or that my problems are too petty for you to listen to. You have talked me through so many big decisions in my life, and your opinion means the world to me.

10. You support my dreams.

I remember you coming into my room in eighth grade, after I gave you attitude, and telling me that no matter what I did you would always support me. I cried because at that moment I understood unconditional love. You always help me refocus on my dreams, and help me achieve them through your support and love.

Thank you so much for being the most important man in my life, Dad. You will always be my favorite dance partner. I love you to the moon and back!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
