If you have ever found yourself staying up until two, three or even six in the morning due to overthinking, stress or any other stupid crap, this is the list for you my friend. The following methods I have personally utilized due to my own inability to sleep, so not all of them may work for you. Also a few items are common sense type things, but hey give them a try!
1. Listen To Music
If you have already tried this and it has not worked for you, maybe try listening to something that will take your mind off of whatever is keeping you up.
2. Picture Yourself At A Water Park
When I was younger I could never fall asleep at night and my mother always told me to picture myself in my favorite place, so obviously it was a water park, but maybe for you it is somewhere different. Picture yourself in your favorite place!
3. Read A Book
Now this one may require you to stay up a little longer, especially if you like the book, but reading can usually make the eyes tired so try it out!
4. Color Something
Any grocery store now has these amazing coloring books with all different designs and pictures. If you're into making pretty pictures and all that jazz, pick one of those books up the next time you head to the store.
5. Call Your Mom or Best Friend
Neither of these two people may give you the answer you want or exactly what you want to hear, but maybe it is what you NEED to hear. Moms and best friends usually know things and they can give you a different perspective.
6. Journal Your Thoughts
This does not work for everyone, mainly because you may be writing about the very thing that is keeping you awake. If you are the kind of person that deals with things better by getting them out of your mind, this is probably the best outlet, especially if you're up at four in the morning and you can't call anyone.
7. Do Bed Time Yoga
Just head on over to your internet search engine and find a video, there are plenty of them out there that will work wonders!
8. Take A Warm Bath
I have found that taking warm baths is a great way to relax and let go of the day. Also, get some of those fizzy bath bomb things. They're amazing.
9. Try Hypnosis
I know, I know it sounds really weird but it works. There are videos out there where someone talks to you and you become more relaxed. Similar to the yoga video, just search it!
10. Make A List of The Great Things in Your Life
Sometimes the things that are keeping us up at night are things that we can avoid or choose to not care about. Shift your focus to all of the great things in your life and make a list of them that way when you find yourself awake again late at night you can go back to it!
I get that some of these suggestions are strange, but these are the things I have utilized because I lose way too much sleep. Maybe these will help you get some more zzz's or maybe only one thing will work for you, but hey what do you have to lose!
