10 Things I've Heard Millennials Say About the Presidential Election

With the 2016 Presidential Election underway, it seems impossible to avoid hearing about it. Every time we turn the TV on or log into some form of social media, we are bombarded with news about the election. The bar seems to have been set pretty low for us millennials in regards to our knowledge of politics in general, but especially of this election. As a fellow millennial who follows politics very closely, this assumption is insulting, but I can’t help but agree with it. Hearing people discuss this election has been unavoidable lately, so I decided to really listen to what some millenials are saying. Here are ten things I’ve heard about the 2016 Presidential Election.

1. “I was too distracted by Trump’s hair throughout the debate”

Because the fate of our country is in the hands of Trump’s hair, not his political views.

2. “I want Trump to win the Presidential Election”

“Why?”

“Well I mean I just agree with everyone who’s been posting about it on Facebook.”

- A conversation I had with a fellow student, and no, I cannot make this stuff up.

3. “I don't see what the big deal is I mean Trump was right, Carly Fiorina is kind of ugly"

Trump's comment showed blatant disrespect towards a fellow candidate and enforced his disgusting attitude towards females in general. But you're right, no biggie!

4. “I only watched the debate because Donald Trump cracks me up”

Sounds like some solid reasoning, but hey at least you watched it.

5. “We need someone like Trump for our country, he understands our needs.”

I never realized how relatable this multi-billionaire was to the common man and to the college freshman who said this - thanks for opening my eyes!

6. “Finally Ben Carson has said something important, we shouldn't have a Muslim President."

Yes, it's true. African-American Republican Candidate Ben Carson believes the President's faith should be consistent with the US Constitution - you know, that thing that once prohibited people to vote because of their race.

7. "I want Trump to win because I love Tom Brady."

As a fellow Patriots fan, I respect your love for the QB. But I cannot respect someone who bases their political view off of a football player's opinion. At least we'll get to watch Brady throw some nasty TD's while this country deteriorates, right?

8. "I can't stand Obama and he really messed up this country. We need to get a Republican in here to fix all of his mistakes."

This is a direct quote from a friend of mine who receives universal health care. THANKS OBAMA.

9. "This country really isn't ready for a female President."

It's 2015. NO, NO, AND NO.

And finally, this gem.

10. "Really Lindsay, what are your credentials to talk about this? I've argued with people in political internet forums I'll debate you any day."

Yes. This happened.

Statements like these feed into the bad rep society has on millennials. The impact we have on this country is stronger than we think. It's time for us millennials to exercise our freedom of speech in a way that proves the assumption wrong, not in a way that reflects our ignorance.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
