10 Things Guys Will Never Understand About Girls

Girls are confusing. Guys are confusing. Here's a list of some traditional things girls do that guys don't understand, explained by a girl. Good luck!

1. Why we take so long to get ready.

Sometimes getting ready for an event is more fun than the event itself. It's a time for us girls to hang out together, talk about our lives, anticipate how much fun the night is going to be and reassure each other of how good we look.

2. The "natural" look takes hours to perfect.

If a girl is wearing what you think is "natural" makeup, chances are it took her longer than the five minutes you assume it took.

3. We never go to the bathroom alone.

If a girl is with a group of other girls, she will NEVER go to the bathroom alone. Why? Who knows. Basically it's another opportunity for us to talk (without boys) and, of course, be safe (we always travel in pairs!).

4. Expensive clothes are worth it.

Many boys are content with going to Academy, picking up a reasonably-priced pair of tennis shoes, wearing them until they're dead (four months later), and then going back and buying the same pair again. Girls are a lot trickier when it comes to fashion, and most would tell you that when it comes to clothes, it's always better to pick up the more expensive and "better-made" clothing items We're always looking to find deals, but a good pair of jeans will last years and look good with nearly any top.

5. We screenshot everything.

Oh, you don't remember that promise you made at 10:02 p.m. on January 5? Don't worry — we do! And we sent a screenshot of the message to all our friends. It's not meant to hurt anyone, just makes sure we remember.

6. A good haircut is worth driving across town for (or even farther).

Girls aren't very trusting when it comes to our hair. We find a person we like and we stick with him/her, knowing that one bad haircut could lead to the worst day ever. Most girls like to maintain more hair than guys, so basically, that means there are more chances to mess it up. It's worth the drive across town to see a trusted stylist.

7. We dress well for ourselves.

Any girl who says she's never dressed up to impress someone else is lying, but guys seem to think that whenever we dress up, it's always for someone else's benefit. The truth is, dressing up is empowering – it just feels good. I dress to impress myself! (This excludes dates, where hours are spent picking the right outfit and doing makeup, hair, etc., so don't be fooled.)

8. Jealousy is real.

We all try not to do it (it's not flattering), but girls can get very jealous about other girls –especially ex-girlfriends. We can't help it. Maybe it's a natural competitive edge?

9. Women's clothes don't have pockets.

Why? Who knows, but – they don't. So while guys can just throw their wallet into their back pocket, women have to be more creative. And "creative" equals "purse." Now you know why we get so excited when we see a dress with pockets.

10. Saying we're "fine" when we're not.

If you ever hear this, I'm sorry. There's really nothing I can tell you except if a girl says she's fine, she's not fine. "Fine" is the not-so-secret code for bad. Why do we use this word? Maybe because "I'm fine" is nicer than saying "I'm mad at you because you did something stupid," or we're hoping that you'll get the hint and try to find out what's truly going on. It's a sorry situation for both parties, but this will probably never change.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
