10 Things Dog Moms and Real Moms Have in Common

Being a dog mom, we care about our babies just as much as a real mom would.

As dog moms, we've come to the conclusion that the relationship we have with our fur babies is similar to the same relationship we ever will, or do have with our real babies. So what are our those things that both us as dog moms and real moms, have in common?

1. We both get nervous sending our kids to their first sleepover.

"Do they have everything they need?" "Will they be okay without me?" These are the constant thoughts running through our head when we drop our dogs off for their first sleepover.

2. We both end up spending a lot of money on our dogs and our kids.

Let's face it, we spoil the heck out of our little fur babies. See a cute sweater, they have to have it, a new toy, they need that too. We just can't say no and literally want to give them the world.

3. We both as parents, become full time playmates.

We become our kiddos best play time partner. They depend on us to provide fun almost all the time. So even when you're woken up at 6am, sometimes saying no to tug-a-war is not an option.

4. We both experience the loss of a social life.

My friends: "Wanna go out tonight?" Me: "No, I can't, I need to spend some quality time with Riley. I think we're gonna have a Netflix night." My friends, and probably yours too, then stare at you as if your absolutely crazy; unless they have a dog too, then they catch our drift.

5. We both want our babies to have lots of friends.

We want our babies to be well loved. We literally light up when we see them playing with another dog and making a new friend.

6. We both love those sleepy time cuddle sessions with our kids.

We're obsessed with cuddling with our cute creatures. Whether they take up half the bed, or are so tiny that they can nuzzle up right into the crease of our necks, we love cuddle time. It brings us closer together and demonstrates the special bond we have with our baby.

7. We both teach our little cuties a lot of lessons.

Whether it's the practical lessons that need to be learned, like where to go to the bathroom, or the harder lessons, like how to be kind to others, our dogs truly do learn a lot from us. We are their moms after all, and we never give up on teaching them everything they need to know in life.

8. We both try to ensure our kids have a healthy diet.

We want our babies to live a long and happy life, so we make sure nutrition is one of our top priorities. We get them high quality dog food, despite the dent it makes on our bank account, and we make sure they're going for walks regularly; just being healthy overall.

9. We both see ourselves getting more nurturing.

Having our dog in our life has helped us to grow as a person. We learn to be both more patient, more caring and more loving.

10. We both will do anything to protect our children.

We will always protect our pups no matter what. They are everything to us and we never would want any harm to come to them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
