10 Things People Do That I Dislike
  • Never reply on time: This is first on my list because I absolutely hate this. Especially when one is having an extremely important conversation with someone and that person suddenly disappears and replies 12 hours later when the conversation isn’t relevant anymore. The most annoying part about this is that many people are online, fully aware that someone has sent an important message but just decide to reply after two decades just because who they are as a person. That’s no excuse.

  • Cancel plans suddenly: You know how you plan everything out for a special event or a weekend out with your friends and they suddenly cancel on you AFTER the event has started. You keep waiting and calling to see if they’ll show up but by the time they reply the event is already done with. Unless it’s an emergency, please don’t do that to your friends. Especially the ones you don’t know that well.

  • Casually demean and insult bus drivers, janitors, cleaning staff, waiters etc. These angels are providing us with a very valuable service that we dread to do ourselves. Yes, they are being paid to do this work but a) they are on minimum wage and b) that doesn’t imply that we are allowed to treat them any way we like because of our own superiority complex. We should respect them and help them whenever we get the chance.

  • Using drunkenness as an excuse for everything: Don’t even get me started how people do inappropriate, insensible and disgusting things to and with other people and justify their actions by saying they were drunk or weren’t in their senses. This also implies vice versa. No one should take advantage of a drunk person just because they aren’t fully in control of their actions.

  • Cutting queues: I HATE these people. Especially when the line is long and it is for FOOD. There should be a severe punishment in place for such a crime. It’s extremely disrespectful.

  • Using sexist slang to describe one another: Okay so first of all why does ‘pussy’ imply weakness? You do know women pass an entire baby through it, right? Furthermore, why does ‘dick’ imply ‘fuckboy-ness’ or lack of emotion? Who even started using sexual organs to imply these things? And why, after being so aware, do we still use these words with stereotypical connotations every day?

  • Make fun of other people’s accents: This never made sense to me. How can someone’s accent determine how literate or illiterate they are? We need to realize everyone comes from a different background, family, and area. Why is one accent or pronunciation considered the ‘correct’ one? There is no right or wrong in this. Accents don’t determine anything.

  • Looking down upon other cultures: I understand the media has perverted our view of many cultures and religions around the world but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t listen and try to learn about novel traditions and cultures. Embracing a stereotypical notion of someone else’s culture without making an effort to learn about it is a stupid decision to make.

  • Making racist jokes: We are in the 21st century now. We are more aware than ever. Why do we still crack racist jokes and think they are funny? Trust me, they are not.

  • Making someone feel inferior: There are a lot of people out there who flaunt their blessings to make other people feel shitty about their lives. It’s nice to share our accomplishments and positive life stories, however flaunting something another person doesn’t have is rude and immature. Let’s not do that. Let’s make an effort to make sure everyone feels good about themselves.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
