The excitement to leave home and start your own life in a college dorm far from home is uncontrollable during your senior year of high school. The Snapchats and Instagram posts from your high school’s alumni look so fun; do they even have homework or tests in college? We all say we won’t miss home, that our family will miss us more than we miss them, but not until we’re hundreds of miles from home do we actually realize that living under our parent’s roof just wasn’t so bad.
1. The food will be terrible.
I would do anything to have one of my mom’s home cooked meals that I would complain about when I was home.
2. Going out every night is a thing.
Sometimes you need to reboot and have fun, so you make the decision to go out on a weeknight and regret it when your alarm goes off for your 9 a.m.
3. You will plan your nap for the day the second you wake up and take five minute naps whenever you can.
Going out often, trying to get good grades, and being involved in clubs and your school will take a toll on your overall attitude. Naps are essential, but don’t forget to set an alarm, because it is easy to oversleep if you have something planned for later in the day.
4. Your coffee addiction will grow to new extremes.
It is actually impossible to get through most days without a grande coffee.
5. You hated doing laundry before? Well, now you have to walk outside to do it too.
The most inconvenient part of the week is doing laundry, especially when you are lugging a huge basket down to the laundry room in the rain. Don’t forget to set your timer either, or else people will take your clothes out and throw them wherever there is space so that they can use the dryer.
6. The syllabus is your life.
Most common phrase from any professor: “It’s on the syllabus.”
7. You can have three tests, two papers, and a project due all on the same day and no one will care.
There are no excuses, and even if you aren’t in class, the work is still due.
8. Your bank account will actually cry.
Not working and having online shopping habits are not a good mix.
9. Being in the library for five plus hours on any given day is normal.
The one place that will force you to productive because you just want to get back to your room and snuggle up in bed with Netflix.
10. You’re actually an adult.
Your future is in your power, your day to day activities are in your own hands, you have to work to make money, go to school to get a career, oh, and you are also in more debt than money you could imagine.
