10 Things College Students Should Do Over Winter Break
  1. Catch up with friends:Let us not forget our life long high school friends. Yes, some of these people still matter and the ones that do will be eager to hear about the past semester. For most this reunion does not have to be anything special, go to lunch, shopping or have them over for the day. Chances are it will be nice to reflect on the good and bad of the year thus far.
  2. Make some money:It is not only nice to get out and socialize over winter break but to also make money by doing so. For some this is a chance to pay off some of what they already owe for their schooling for other a chance at a little more freedom. A little extra cash is a good thing, whether it is for stress eaters snacking habits or a trip to a favorite restaurant to avoid cafeteria food.
  3. Spend time with family:This is a given, with Christmas approaching family will be eager to hear about how college is going and delighted to see that you can in fact live on your own. Take some time to spend with your family even if it only is for a short time. Continue those family traditions with delight, they will appreciate it more than you think.
  4. Go outside:Between classes and homework it is not very common to find college students outside enjoying themselves. The short walk to class provides just a small taste of what the winter weather has to offer. Winter break is a good time to reconnect with your inner child, build a snow man, have a snowball fight or relive the thrill of sledding. This is sure to bring a smile to your face even when the weather is quite chilly.
  5. Holiday movies:If the cold and stormy weather becomes too much to handle the best thing to do is cuddle up with a nice warm blanket and catch up on the traditional holiday movies. Elf is my personal favorite and I look forward to watching it every holiday season. Start some of your own movie traditions with your family.
  6. Shopping:Christmas may bring many gift cards to some, after all the older you get the harder you may be to shop for. Take some time to go to the mall and spend some of this, add to your wardrobe, buy for a hobby, or anything else your heart may desire. Shopping can also be a stress reliever, some may even choose to shop online.
  7. Relax:After a stressful semester it is important to take a deep breath and concentrate on yourself for the next month. Start a new Netflix series just because or get your nails done because you want to. After dedicating so much to college work your body may need some time to repair in order to move on.
  8. Sleep:Those 8AM classes didn’t allow for the number of hours you wished you could have slept. While on winter break take some time to sleep in past 7 or even sleep in all day but be careful not to become a hermit. It is important to sleep but that’s not the only thing that should be done over winter break.
  9. Enjoy real food:We all can admit that cafeteria food is not the best. It seems no matter how many different options there are it still becomes old. Let your taste buds come alive with the first touch of real food. Take some time to eat fruits and veggies that your school may be lacking your share of.
  10. Prepare for the next semester:This should not happen too soon but it still is important to concentrate on the semesters ahead. Purchase textbooks required for classes, buy new one subject notebooks, stock up on pencils and make sure things are as smooth as they can be for your transition back into college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
