Every year it seems as if the summer gets shorter and shorter, before you know it it will be time to head back to school and leave behind your hometown and everything that comes with it. So, here are some things that you should do before you return to college or your second home:

1. Make a list

No matter where you go, you will have needs and wants. Make a list of things you need to do and things you want to do; things you need to bring to school and things you want to bring to school. Two columns, simple.

2. Say thank you to your parents

The summer season is often full of a lot of work and a lot of play whether it is with your family or not. Be sure that before you go back to school that you thank your family for all they do to support and love you even when you are not around.

3. Don't hesitate to pack

Packing for school is often an exciting yet dreadful time. The best way to make sure you do not forget anything is to start packing earlier rather than later and to make sure to refer back to that list you should have made constantly.

4. Communicate with your roommate(s)

Make sure everything is running smoothly between you and your roommate to make sure you don't have two fridges and two microwaves because no one needs hot pockets that badly.

5. Go shopping

Everyone enjoys a back-to-school wardrobe but also go shopping for college snacks, room decor and anything you might need including wet wipes, tissues and dryer sheets.

6. Wash the dorm sheets

Most people use different sheets at home and in their dorm room so be sure to wash the sheets that you may have stored in your basement over the summer because they may be a little musty.

7. Double check class schedules

sometimes colleges and universities change class times in the summer without alerting the students and it can cause some scheduling conflicts so be sure you double check to make sure your schedule is still in good shape.

8. Take a day off

Moving back to school can be just as stressful as a summer job so take a day off to relax and get your mind straight before heading back up to school to pursue the struggle of school work.

9. Treat yourself

Before going back to school hit up your favorite restaurant and get some ice cream to celebrate another great summer in the books. It is okay to splurge at this point because you can't really use the "broke college kid" excuse in the summer.

10. Say goodbye

The best friends you make in life are from high school and college so you need to make it a priority to say goodbye to the best friends you have made over the years and be sure to keep in touch during the school year.

See you in a few weeks SLUzers :).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
