Getting up in the morning is a struggle in itself. Now, pair that struggle of waking up with trying to apply various makeup products and getting it all over yourself or on the floor...especially if that makeup isn't cheap. It can get pretty expensive! Either way, we love our makeup and we'll go through hell and back with it in order to look like our best selves. Here are 10 struggles we all have with 10 different makeup products.
1. Winged eyeliner is never perfect.
Winged eyeliner has always taken this world by storm of eliciting an effortless, striking look. However, effortless is far from the truth, because actually trying to make both eyes even is the ultimate struggle of anyone's eyeliner routine. Unless, of course, you have it down to an art. You attempt to even both sides out and never actually achieving it, so you continue back and forth until your eyelids are completely dark. What a mess.
2. Mascara on your eyelids!
The meticulous art of applying mascara is one that requires extreme amounts of patience and a steady hand (all of which I do not personally have). This results in mascara touching your upper and lower eyelids in an attempt to make your eyelashes appear long, lustrous, and natural. In reality, your entire eye gets the mascara. Don't even get me started on stabbing your eyeball with the wand.
3. Eyeshadow all over your cheeks...and on the floor.
Powdery eyeshadow wreaks havoc on our lives by creating fall-out from our brushes when we apply them to our eyelids. Unfortunately, all of this fall-out usually ends up all over our cheeks and nose. This becomes extremely annoying if you're applying shimmery shadow or a dark shade. Another unfortunate happening of using eyeshadow is inevitably dropping it on the floor. Now you have eyeshadow on your cheeks and all over the floor, cracked to pieces.
4. Lipstick/Liner being an absolute mess.
Bless all those who can rock lipstick and liner effortlessly. More often than not, though, both lipstick and liner become the devil to us. Creating smooth, even lines is a struggle anyways is you don't have a steady hand. But factor in the lipstick application and now you're in for a wild ride because not only will your lips have the color...your teeth will, too.
5. What am I contouring?
Sculpting our faces to resemble the marble gods and goddesses is a skill in its own. Where are my cheekbones? Is this where the contour goes? Highlighter? My NOSE needs contouring? Is this color too dark? We've all had these questions and we've all tried to answer them by trying it out on our faces. 15th time is the charm, right?
6. Trying to match foundation/concealer to our skin tone.
Transitioning from summer to winter shades, and all times in-between, is hard. In the store, the colors we try looks great, but when you catch yourself in other light sources you realize that your head and body are two separate entities. Don't by shy in stores! Flaunt the mismatch color in the stores so you know what works and what doesn't!
7. The struggle of trying to make even, natural-looking brows.
Here we meet again-steady hands and lots of patience required. Using an angled brush and a color pot is basically like creating a painting on a blank canvas. Lots of videos online or Pinterest tutorial boards can help us achieve those natural-looking, filled-in brows we desire. Lots of practice is needed to really nail this down. We all know the struggle of putting on too much product and trying to blend it out, or simply going off the grid and lining your forehead (maybe that's just me).
8. Loose powder flying everywhere.
Using loose powder is great if you want to set your foundation, bake, or dull out our oily t-zone. Inevitably, though, the loose powder is exactly what is says it is: loose. So that means powder flying all over the place which isn't limited to literally everywhere. Everything is game, don't be fooled.
9. Getting any makeup out of clothing is terrible.
The struggle of accidentally plopping a huge blob of foundation on our white tops or smudging our eyebrows or eyeliner on clothing is terrible. The marks stay there far longer than we anticipate because we purchase makeup in hopes that it will stay on our face. Makeup on our clothing is particularly frustrating when we're in a rush and have to leave the house. Now we have to completely swap our shirt out for another one.
10. Not knowing if anything is actually blended.
Poor lighting can contribute terribly to this because things like contour lines are super obvious if it isn't blended right. Same for eye shadow. Sure, we may like the way various colors pop on our eyelids, but it definitely looks best if it has transitions and blends seamlessly into the next color. After a while of applying makeup, though, things may start to go fuzzy because you've been looking at your face forever. Making sure we blended correctly is definitely a struggle.
