10 Things I Won't Miss About Stony Brook

Acting like I don't have finals to take.

Even though Stony Brook gives us 2 breaks a year (lol) I decided to come home for Easter to spend time with my family. While I walked around Soho with my brother yesterday evening, I realized there are things about Stony Brook that I´ve grown to despise.

1. The rain

I swear it does not rain in the city as much as it does in Long Island. Almost every Tuesday it rains (a theory proven to be true, look it up). I can't walk around campus without having to fear wet socks from rain puddles that just won't go away.

2. Meal plans

I swipe to eat bowls of cereal before morning classes and regret it later on in the week when I actually want to eat a real meal. Why are meal plans so expensive if you´re not gonna give me quality food?

3. Expensive candy

There is no reason why I should pay $1.50 FOR A CANDY BAR.

DO BETTER STONY BROOK. DO BETTER.

4. Getting off campus

Since I don't drive and don't have a car getting off campus can get so annoying. Shout out to Zipcar though, I would never have milk or snacks in my room without you. Extra shoutout to my friends who are licensed to drive. You hold a special place in my heart.

5. The deli in east

DON´T YOU DARE CHARGE ME SIX DOLLARS FOR A KAISER ROLL WITH ONE HUGE LEAF OF LETTUCE IN IT. DON´T. IT´S NOT EVEN BOAR´S HEAD COLD CUTS SO WHAT AM I PAYING FOR?

(The six dollars does not include a beverage or snacks)

6. Smoking in front of tobacco-free signs

Yes, trendy international students, I'm talking to you. I do not smoke cigarettes so when I happen to walk by Melville Library I should not taste nicotine.

7. The bees

I know we´re supposed to do everything to protect bees but I don't understand what power possesses bees on campus. I've been chased by bees so many times I've lost count.

8. The mud

It gets unusually muddy because of the rain and NOTHING, absolutely nothing, sucks more than the feeling of stepping on mushy soggy mud.

RIP to all my sneakers.

9. Housing

I tweeted that finding a good space to live in Stony Brook is harder than finding an apartment in NYC. I was right.

WHY IS HOUSING SO STRESSFUL?

WHY IS LIVING IN TUBMAN AND CHAVEZ SO EXPENSIVE?

EXPLÍCAME POR FAVOR.

10. Why do we need our lawns mowed almost every day?

Why? The grass will be patchy and ugly get over it. Please, all I want is to sleep in when I don't have an 8 am and I can't, thanks to the sound of lawnmowers.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
