In a country known for its huge portion sizes, it's only fitting that one of America's most beloved holidays is centered around exorbitant amounts of food. Although everyone mostly looks forward to eating on Thanksgiving, it's important to remember what the day is really all about: giving thanks. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so prepare yourself for a fun, yet long and tiresome day of spending time with family and, of course, eating.
1. First, you have to pick out a cute outfit.
You search for your most comfortable skirt, dress, or stretchy pants so that you can leave plenty of room for lots of food without having to unbutton your pants. Warning: this process may take much longer than it should if you're as indecisive as me.
2. Next, the long car ride with your family.
If you have a big family like me, you know the struggles of all piling into one car together for an extended amount of time. Tensions can run high and you'll most likely bicker with your siblings about staying out of each other's personal space, but it can also be fun when you're all singing along loudly to the radio.
3. The endless amount of hugs from members of your extended family.
Get ready to be squeezed, kissed, and greeted with "Wow! You've gotten so big!" Is that even a compliment anymore?
4. The dreaded judgmental questions.
Prepare to be asked if you finally have a boyfriend, what you plan on doing with your major, and all the other questions you just want to avoid answering.
5. A friendly game of touch football that quickly turns super competitive.
If your family is anything like mine, with lots of energetic and athletic cousins, things can get pretty crazy on the field. Even though some of us usually end up with a few bumps and bruises, it's a really fun annual tradition.
6. You are more than ready to start eating.
You smell all the amazing aromas of food coming from the kitchen and your stomach starts growling. Bring on the feast.
7. But first, everyone prays and says what they're thankful for.
It's important to stop and remember what the holiday is really about.
8. You finally take your first bite of food and it's heavenly.
You happily start stuffing your face with endless amounts of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, sweet potatoes, and all the fixin's.
9. You've eaten so much, but it's all just too good to stop any time soon.
You go up for seconds...and then thirds. Oh, and then there's dessert. How could you possibly pass up warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream?
10. The food coma.
All that eating literally wore you out, so the idea of a nap sounds great right about now. You decide to just lie down on the couch for a little bit... and then bam, you're out.
Happy Turkey Day!!! Enjoy spending time with your family, eating all that delicious food, and being thankful for all you have.
