It's the second most wonderful time of the year. There are no songs to go along with it unless you're in Pre-K for the Thanksgiving Day sing-a-long, yet it's something we wait for and think about all year long.
Thanksgiving. It's a day to give thanks and to also fast all day to eat as much as you can of all the amazing home cooked food that your mom and the rest of your family has been making for years. Between stuffing your face with that stovetop stuffing and making sure the hole in the mashed potatoes is just deep enough to soak up all the gravy. Let's not forget the main character of this annual feast: the turkey. He's been cooking all day in the oven for the main event that brings families and friends around the United States together for a wonderful and fantastic meal.
Each Thanksgiving we take the time out of our busy, hectic schedules to sit down, have a meal with the ones we love, and be thankful that we have, yet again, triumphed through another year of chaos. Friendsgiving has become something so important, too, when you can't be home for the holidays. Whether it's with friends or family, it's always nice to be with people you care about and who care about you and it's always nice to have that one day to remind us of how fortunate we really are. It doesn't matter where you spend your Thanksgiving, but with the company you keep at that once-a-year feast.
We all have our favorite memories of Thanksgiving, between the green bean casserole, your mom's famous dutch apple pie, or early Black Friday shopping after bolting out the door to get the best deals after your four o'clock dinner. That's if you don't fall asleep before you leave to go shopping from that food coma that's about to hit.
Who ever said shopping wasn't fun on a full stomach must've not been that fun to be around.
I challenge you this Thanksgiving to look around to each and every person sitting at your table. Remember why you do what you do every year and remember that they are your support system, even between the "So what's next after college?" and "Don't you have a boyfriend yet, sweetie?" questions that make you want to rip your hair out and just drive back to school. You are loved and you are appreciated for what you do each and every day, even if it may not seem like it.
Make time for your loved ones this year and, if you can't be home, don't forget to remind them how thankful you are of them.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
