At first it seems like such a good idea to spend the week of spring break home, relaxing with your family and catching up with sleep, but once the snapchats of all your friends in Cancun roll in you know you made the wrong decision. Sure home cooked meals and quality time with your mom and puppy seem great for a few days. Getting tan isn't that important and not finding a random spring break fling isn't THAT big of a deal, so you settle for the couch and the remote and at least pretend you'll try to work out and get your homework done.
- Coming Home!
- But where are all my friends…
- Maybe I can be productive!!
- HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT FUN MOM AND DAD!?
- Ok Ok, I’ll set an alarm mom.
- Well I tried…
- THEY’RE BACK! FRIENDS ARE HOME!
- Reminder that high school was weird..
- Sorry, but is it time to go back yet?
- THE TIME HAS COME!
You get home, immediately raid the fridge and turn on the TV, blessing the heavens for cable and real homemade meals. Yes, it’s a bit hectic at first, with all the normal questions, How’s school? How’s class? Who are your friends? Do you have a boyfriend? Why don’t you have a boyfriend?, but once you get over that hurdle you’re free to snuggle up with the one you missed most, your dog.
After a day of lounging and enjoying the nothingness that being on break brings, you realize you should probably see some of your high school friends. You text your multiple GMs, the big one, the girls one, and, of course, the real one with the people you actually still like and talk to, then you wait… and wait… and wait… until you realize no one is home.

You’re alone, everyone’s still at school, doing work, but they also have all their school friends. Mini freak out! Why didn’t you go to Miami or Montreal or even Ohio would be better than feeling like being in high school for a whole week, trapped at home. Take a deep breath. It can’t be that bad, maybe this is the week to start eating healthy or starting that workout challenge you’ve been putting off all semester. I mean at the very least now you’ll have no excuse not to write that paper due next monday… right?

After a day, okay maybe three, of moping you realize that who’s more fun to hang out with then your parents??? While you’ve been binge watching Gossip Girl, your parents have been waiting for you to realize the best part of being home is being with them. You begin to spill everything that’s happened since winter break to your mom. From sorority drama to school stress to boy troubles to things that may be a bit too far for her to know, but she’s your new confidant so she gets to hear all about it.

About halfway in now, time has slowed. You realize that sleeping till 5pm every day is definitely not natural, and that you’ve now wasted 3 days that you could be eating almonds or squats or something. The time has come, you thought it never would happen over a break, but you set an alarm. Nothing too crazy just 10 am, so that you could maybe have the potential of being productive the next day.

Beep. Beep. Beep. 10am. Damn. You should probably get up and do all those things you were so confident about yesterday. But moving is just so hard when cocooned in layers of blankets and pillows. And the remote is still on the bed from the night before so you don’t even have to move much to turn on the T.V… maybe tomorrow you think as you drift back into sleep for the rest of the day.

IT’S FRIDAY!? WAIT!! IT’S BEEN A WEEK?? NO WAY!? Your phone buzzes, it’s your gms, everyone’s home! Still in shock you realize that the end weekend of your spring break is the beginning of all your friends’. FRIENDS!! You say goodbye to your beloved bed and rush over to your best friends house dying to catch up on all her latest college gossip and then get ready to go out. Because what’s a break from college without an awkward party with all your friends from high school?

Well, that was weird. All your old friends together again, with some vlad, and a bowl of pretzels. The nostalgia was strong and not in a good way. Is this really what you were so upset you were missing? It can’t be. Those high school parties seemed so fun when you think back about them! Or are you just not thinking about the whole thing… ugh. At least you woke up in your own bed and not some random frat guys! and now you and your girls can get brunch and gossip on how fratty all your boys are now, and what's up with all the weird beards??

Ok, you don't want to admit it, but is it time to go back to school yet? This week has felt like decades and you love your parents, but there's nothing like going out at 2 am for no reason and not having to explain yourself to anyone. It’s time, you need your freedom back, your friends back, and random weeknight drinking sessions where it’s ok that it's a monday because its college!

You’re sad to leave your bed, your parents, and some home cooked meals, but there’s no better feeling than getting back to school and seeing all your friends for the first time in what feels like months. On the ride back you promise yourself, next year you’re going somewhere tropical.
