It seems like almost every contemporary pop song out there has a tad bit of misogyny mixed into it. It’s good to see a female-forward anthem out there every once in awhile. Each and every girl should have a feminist playlist for those days when you need a little boost or reminder that being a girl is a pretty great thing, or for when the patriarchy bogs down on you a little too hard. Here are a few highlights (because, obviously, there’s about 1000 more songs I could add to this list) from my playlist, entitled “Who Run the World?

1. “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyonce

The namesake of my own personal, feminist playlist - this Beyonce hit is arguably the ultimate feminist song. Key lyric: “Boy I know you love it / How we’re smart enough to make these millions / Strong enough to bear the children / Then get back to business.”

2. “Roar” by Katy Perry

This song gives us courage to stand up for ourselves and roar. Key lyric: “I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath / Scared to rock the boat and make a mess / So I sit quietly, agree politely / I guess that I forgot I had a choice.”

3. “Bad Girls” by M.I.A.

All I have to say is, "You go girl!" Key lyric: “Looking in the rear view swagger going swell / leaving boys behind cause it's legal just to kill.”

4. “Who Says” by Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez reminds us that nobody is perfect and that we should all accept our flaws; we are more beautiful with them. Key lyric: “I'm sure you got some things / you'd like to change about yourself / but when it comes to me / I wouldn't want to be anybody else.”

5. “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce

This is just another incredible hit by Beyonce. Key lyric: “Baby I won't shed a tear for you / I won't lose a wink of sleep / 'cause the truth of the matter is / replacing you is so easy.”

6. “Confident” by Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is really something. This one touches upon the importance of maintaining confidence in all that we do as women. “It's time for me to take it / I'm the boss right now/ not gonna fake it / not when you go down / 'cause this is my game / and you better come to play.”

7. “BO$$” by Fifth Harmony

This catchy tune will be stuck in your head all day. It even calls out some of our favorite 21st century feminists like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. Key lyric: "Working for the money / 'Cause that what my momma taught me / so yo a** better show me some respect.”

8. “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” by Shania Twain

Shania Twain coming in clutch to remind us to let loose and not to be afraid to have a little bit of fun with our girlfriends. Key lyric: "The best thing about being a woman / is the prerogative to have a little fun.”

9. “Respect” by Aretha Franklin

In this classic anthem, Aretha Franklin doesn’t just ask for respect from her man -- she demands it. Key lyric: “I'm about to give you all of my money / and all I'm askin' in return, honey.”

10. “Survivor’” by Destiny’s Child

In this song, Destiny’s Child teaches us that we are strong, independent women who don’t need no man. Key lyric: “You thought that I’d be broke without you / But I’m richer / You thought that I’d be sad without you / I laugh harder.”

Now go out and beat down the patriarchy!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
