1) "BETTER WHEN I'M DANCIN'" BY MEGHAN TRAINOR
This song is one of my personal favorites. I listen to it every time I feel down because this song says no matter who you are or what you're going through, you can get up and dance. Dancing, even horribly, is such a brilliant medicine. If you are up and moving that beautiful body of yours, you can accomplish practically anything. If this song doesn't make you dance, that is quite okay. I can guarantee it will at least cause your happiness to grow every time you give it a listen.
2) "CASTLE" BY HALSEY
The tone of this one isn't as bubbly as #1. In fact, it kinda makes you feel like a badass. The artist, Halsey, who puts out amazing songs, made this one specifically about how the people in her life were not getting in the way of her ambitions. The line "I'm headed straight to the castle. They're gonna make me their queen." is really a line you, as a woman should be relating to because every single one of you are queens of your own kingdom. When I say this, I mean you can be a queen without a king.
3) "ACAPELLA" BY KARMIN
Guys, I love this song. Maybe the message it sends isn't entirely how you should treat a relationship, but the main message is that it is completely okay to be picky about your man. Only choose the man that treats you right and is afraid to lose you. If your guy is treating you like garbage and not maintaining what he needs to be on his end, do not feel bad about kissing him goodbye. You deserve the best, and like #2 said, you are a queen.
4) "ME TOO" BY MEGHAN TRAINOR
I guess there's a trend going on here because this one is all about self-love and empowerment too. Meghan Trainor does an amazing job in this song being completely blunt about how wonderful and beautiful is. After a breakup, this is a perfect song to listen to while picking out new lingerie, doing your makeup, or just prancing around in your undies. Learning to love yourself, your body and your lifestyle are all the best revenge after a breakup, and once you only need you, you won't need that person anymore.
5) "SEND MY LOVE (TO YOUR NEW LOVER)" BY ADELE
The vibe to this one is a little different in terms of how far along your breakup is. This one is really about how the ex has already moved on to a new lover, and Adele sings about coming to terms about that and hoping that he treats her right. It's all about letting go of "the ghosts" because moving on is a part of growing up. It hurts, but if you come to terms with it, then you are destined to me a much happier person. All you have to do is accept it and do the best you can to improve yourself.
6) "CAKE" BY MELANIE MARTINEZ
Now this one is probably the most "aggressive" message. In this song, Melanie sings about a girl who was brutally broken up with after being treated like an object. If your man basically "hit it and quit it", this is the song for you. The lyrics are something that many women today can relate to. He seems like the perfect guy but ends up being the same sleazy jerk you've met a thousand times before. Some of them just never change. Don't let him make you feel like you're worth nothing. Once you convince yourself you're more than "just a piece of cake," it is much easier for you to move on.
7) "DOMINO" BY JESSIE J
Gosh, I know this song is old, but it is still so relevant! Much like Meghan Trainor's "Me Too," this song is all about body positivity, but it also has a little bit of the going out to the club, dancing and getting to know a stranger vibe. If you are still distraught about a past man, go out! Go out in your sexiest outfit, work it like you were born to wear it, and meet people. Be sure to bring the girls along to share the experience with you if you're feeling a little too shy to go on your own. Whatever works. Just put yourself out there and let what happens happen (as long as it's beneficial for you, of course)!
8) "FIGHT SONG" BY RACHEL PLATTEN
One song that is really good for breakups is definitely this song. Rachel Platten sings about how everything seems to have been crashing down on her, much like it feels when a breakup happens. But, instead of singing about how awful and tearful her life is, she transforms the message into a powerful one telling you to keep on fighting through whatever it is that's beating you down. Though losing someone you love is heartbreaking, you have to grieve, but you also have to push forward while grieving to move on. Wallowing won't help, but fighting for yourself will.
9) "STRONGER" BY KELLY CLARKSON
The meaning of this song is almost identical to "Fight Song," in which bad things may happen to you, but "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"! Again, you are a strong woman, and you do not need them to be happy. All you really need is you, your friends, and your family. Work on building that self esteem and pride (to healthy levels), and make sure you know that this doesn't have to be done on your own. Lean on people who can help you to be stronger and move on knowing that you are worth everything.
10) "GOLDEN DAYS" BY PANIC! AT THE DISCO
Now, the connotation of this one is a bit different than the others. This one addresses the ability to reflect upon something you cherish without sadness. This part is the most difficult to achieve in a relationship, but the artist sings about how he finds some old photographs of good times he has had, and instead of being upset about them, describes them as "golden days." You can do this with past relationships, too. Embrace the bad times, remember the good times, and appreciate not everything you experienced was miserable. It may take a bit longer, but I believe you can do it. It's quite a relieving feeling once you get there.
