The Odyssey Online

I pride myself in having a wide variety of music on my iTunes account. My genres range from classical to rap, with everything in-between. My taste for music changes with my mood, which is why I have such a large selection of genres on my iPod. In the past few years, I have expanded my music library significantly. New music has opened my eyes to different perspectives on life by showing me how different artists choose to express themselves. Below are a few songs that you may have never heard of. If you haven't, I strongly suggest that you listen to them. (I have included YouTube links for each song.) I know everyone has different tastes in music, but if you are like me, then you'll enjoy listening to something new or different.

1. "You Are the Best Thing" by Anthony Pavel

I'm a sucker for a good love song, and this acoustic artist makes my heart melt with his voice as he sings a cover of Ray Lamontagne's original.

2. "Fanfare" by Black Violin

It's violin mixed with hip-hop, and it really doesn't get better than that.

3. "Fragile" by Delta Goodrem

If you're having a day where you just need a good song to cry to, I highly suggest this song.

4. "Louder Than Thunder" by The Devil Wears Prada

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what genre I would use to classify this song. I'm also not really sure why I like this song, but I do.

5. "World" by Five for Fighting

This song brings up a question that everyone should be asking themselves: "What kind of world do you want?" In today's world especially, we all need to think about how our choices impact the Earth.

6. "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap

If you've never heard this song, but you've heard Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say", then you're in for a surprise. ;) (Go listen to this song to find the surprise!)

7. "Broken Ones" by Jacquie Lee

Jacquie Lee was a contestant on the national voice competition "The Voice." This song is an original of hers, and it sends a strong message.

8. "We Bought A Zoo" by Jónsi

If you like calm, instrumental music, then this song is definitely for you.

9. "You Are Loved" by Josh Groban

My mother and I both love Josh Groban. This song sends a message of hope to anyone who is feeling helpless. I strongly suggest you listen to it if you're stressed.

10. "Shooting Star" by Kari Kimmel

Kari Kimmel also sings the song "Where You Belong" which is the theme song for the popular show on ABC Family, "The Fosters." This other song she's written sends a message about learning to love yourself.

Music has the power to change lives. I don't know where I'd be without music. I know that my life would be dull. I hope that at least some of you will take my suggestions into account and widen your iTunes library a little. I'm always looking for new music to listen to, so if you have any suggestions for me, please comment on my Facebook post!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
