We’ve all been there.
You feel like there’s a mutual interest with a guy, and you’re communicating pretty frequently. You get a little excited about it, but the next thing you know, he drops off the face of the earth. Snapchats start to go opened and unanswered; and if it’s really bad, they won’t even be opened. Texts go unanswered for hours, or never answered at all.
Newsflash: He isn’t busy. You’re being ghosted. This guy is pulling a Casper on you and is not being the friendly ghost. This guy is fleeing the scene. Here are 10 signs that you are being ghosted:
1. He does not save your number in his phone.
2. His friends all swear he’s a good guy and would never ghost a girl.
He’s just busy and a little shy, especially with girls.
3. When you see him on campus, he looks immediately down on his phone.
Which is weird, because you’ve been trying to contact him on his phone for days and he has not responded.
4. He won't answer your last desperate form of communication.
An email.
5. The last thing he said was “talk to you soon” or “text me” or “that was fun.”
6. You guys both agreed you didn’t want anything serious.
But when you pursued simple communication, he took that as a marriage proposal.
7. He stops liking your Instagrams.
Even the funny or ugly ones that everyone likes to be fair.
8. He stops watching your Snapchat stories.
He literally does not care whatsoever where you are, who you’re with, or what you’re doing. You of course watch all of his within minutes to ascertain his whereabouts.
9. He stops showing up to places he knows you will be.
Like the class you have together. Or his house. Or the library. Or anywhere at all on campus.
10. When you do finally communicate, weeks to months down the road, he asks why it’s been so long, and acts as if communication had been flowing until you yourself cut it off.
If only you had that resolve.
If you or someone you know has been ghosted, don’t panic. Within time, it could happen to you so frequently that you just automatically assume everyone will drop contact with you. You may assume that hookups have burner phones to avoid contacting you further. You may consider sending out a Missing Persons Report. Have no fear, however – the guy is alive, he’s just not interested. Go figure.
