10 Signs You Were (And Always Will Be) A Gleek

And that's what you missed on GLEE!

10 Signs You Were (And Always Will Be) A Gleek

We’ve all had a TV series we've dedicated our lives to at some point or another. Heck, I’m pretty sure a lot of us are still doing this. It’s almost like an endless cycle as you grow older and your interests change. I’ve had my fair share of these. I’m still going through one as I wait with baited breath for a One Direction reunion. However, before I headed down the One Direction road, I was a major Gleek. So many of us were.

For those of us who were fans of the FOX TV show Glee, this word may seem very familiar. It was the name that all hardcore fans donned as the musically focused series grew popular. We ate, slept, and breathed Glee. Fortunately, so did our best friends.

Recently I’ve been re-watching Glee and let me tell you, I’ve been hit with intense nostalgia. Here are the 10 signs you were a Gleek:

1. Glee songs are better than the original.

Glee has covered many songs from various genres and time periods. From pop that my friends and I listened to classic rock that our parents loved — Glee sang it all. So, any time you hear a song they sang you sing along as if it’s the Glee version, rather than the original. This may call for intense runs or backup vocals that receive side-eye looks from parents or strangers. That's fine, give us all the side-eye looks you want, but you best believe we're going to go Kurt Hummel on this song.

2. “And that’s what you missed on Glee!”

After giving a long-winded explanation, the urge to end your sentence with “And that’s what you missed on Glee!” was so strong. It probably still is.

3. Two words: slushie facial

A slushie to the face was a constant occurrence for the characters on Glee. Though it looked painful and terribly cold, you might have wondered what it would feel like. It’s like the Krabby Patty of Glee. You always wondered what one would taste like.

4. You will always love the merch.

Claire's was a hot spot for Glee merchandise. They made bank as our pre-teen selves couldn’t resist buying a necklace that had Finn Hudson’s face on it. Or that shoulder bag that donned the loser hand gesture.

5. 'Loser Like Me' is a lifestyle.

A lot of Glee’s advertisements and posters pictured the characters with the loser hand gesture over their forehead. This in itself actually redefined the loser hand gesture, making it the coolest pose to throw if you were a Gleek.

6. Glee karaoke is the best karaoke.

Listen, Glee Karaoke hypes us any Gleek. You genuinely felt like a star whenever you nailed Rachel’s version of “Don’t Rain On My Parade” or flawlessly delivered one of Mercedes’ amazing runs.

7. The Glee concert was the best thing that happened to you.

That’s right, the Glee cast went on tour. When it was announced that a Glee concert was happening it felt like all your wildest dreams were coming true. If you weren’t able to go to the concert, Glee still had your back. After the tour they released a 3D concert experience in theaters. Both events were truly a Gleek’s heaven on earth.

8. Glee posters and cutouts are still some of your favorite decorations.

It wasn’t long until your bedroom walls were covered with Glee posters. You probably remember the controversy when their Rolling Stone cover dropped, though it still ended up somewhere on your wall. On top of that, it probably wasn’t uncommon to see a Kurt cardboard cutout standing in the corner of your room. (I had the Kurt cutout and the Finn one, which may or may not be in my closet still.)

9. The kitty cat quote is still amazing.

Sue Sylvester, who was played by the hilarious Jane Lynch, delivered many ridiculous yet iconic lines throughout the show. There was one quote in particular, though, that every Gleek seemed to know by heart. That’s right, I’m talking about the Kitty Cat quote:

I will go to the animal shelter and get you a kitty cat. I will let you fall in love with that kitty cat. And then on some dark cold night I will steal away into your home and punch you in the face.

Oh, Sue.

10. TGCIT (Thank Grilled Cheesus It’s Tuesday)

Tuesday, at first, was the original day Glee would air. It was crucial that all homework and studying was completed before Tuesday night. Glee night was no joke, y'all. It gave us Gleeks something to look forward to early in the week. We'll never forget the excitement we felt whenever we looked forward to a new episode. Overall, we'll never forget how that show made us feel. Though we may look back on some memories with embarrassment, Glee really made an impact on our lives. Deep down, we’ll always be a Gleek.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
