Everyone is talking about how they want to be their own boss these days, but what most of those people are looking for is a situation where they don't have someone telling them what to do and scolding them for wasting time on Instagram at work. Being your own boss is infinitely harder than having a boss, and it requires every ounce of dedication you have. Do you have what it takes?
1. You’re self-disciplined. Remember, you’re becoming your own boss, not just the boss of people who work for you. Boss yourself around when you need to.
2. You stick to your decisions. Second-guessing yourself every day isn’t an option when you have a legacy to create.
3. You’re responsible in all senses of the word. You don’t have someone looking over your shoulder, double-checking your work, so you need to be vigilant, critiquing your work like a boss would.
4. You make shit happen. You aren’t afraid of grueling hard work. You know how to put your head down and get what needs to be done, done.
5. You’re goal driven, working towards the bigger picture in every minute, day-to-day task.
6. You’re not afraid of being a little lonely. Starting out as your own boss, you’re probably going to only have one employee: you. So, while your friends are collaborating with their coworkers and looking forwards to happy hour together, you’re probably working away at your home office.
7. You don’t let a bad moment, or day, stand in your way. Getting caught up in a negative mindset is not a luxury you’re afforded as your own boss. You can’t be easily set back by complications. When a problem arises, you find a solution.
8. You’re imaginative, creative, and bursting with ideas and inspiration on a daily basis.
When it comes down to it, being your own boss isn’t about having control, making your own schedule or avoiding living half your life in a cubicle. It’s about working towards something you are wildly passionate about, and making a difference in the world. It will be harder than anything you’ve done before, and if it’s right for you, it’ll be worth it.
