I remember being super excited to move into my dorm back in September. I was motivated and convinced that I was prepared to take on this new milestone known as "college". I set several goals and made endless promises to attend every class, complete all of my homework, and pass every exam. With fall semester being a total of four months, I successfully met my goals and kept my promises. Unfortunately, it has only been two months. I am half way into the semester and if you are anything like me, you have caught a terrible case of the mid-semester blues. Some people don't even realize when they have fallen victim to the mid-semester blues, but the following ten signs will assist you in knowing for sure.
1. You begin to utilize your absences.
That's right! You wake up in the morning (if you can manage to even wake up at all) and your bed refuses to release you from its hold. You know a majority of your professors allow one or two unexcused absences and at this point, you are ready to use them. Sometimes we all need to take a personal day, but with the way you have been feeling, a personal week isn't sounding half bad.
2. You are growing tired of college food.
In the beginning, it was a beautiful sight to see in the dining hall. There was a plethora of food options available. Now that you are two months into the semester, the food in the dining hall no longer seems appealing. You've grown tired of it all. Looks like it may be time to take a trip back home and see what mom is cooking for dinner...
3. Naps have somehow become apart of your schedule.
Naps have become essential to making it through the day. You have begun to calculate when you can squeeze in a nap. Some of your naps may occur before class, after class, during class, and sometimes maybe even walking to class. Who knows? All you know is that you need to take a nap no matter where you are.
4. You have stopped caring about what you wear to class.
I mean, is it really necessary to put effort into your outfits at this point? A pair of sweatpants, a comfortable hoodie and messy hair are sufficient enough.
5. You feel bad that no one is answering your professor, but you're not about to participate anymore either.
Let's face it. You barely even made it to this class, so participation? That's out of the question.
6. Your stress levels are increasing by the second.
You have never been this stressed out before. You were convinced that your life would return to normal following midterms, but that never happened. Your homework seems to be piling up, you have a paper due every week, and you have no idea whether you should scream or cry.
7. Your procrastination levels are at an all time high.
You have a tendency to put everything off until the last minute. Do you remember that paper your professor assigned last week? Yeah, you have about four more hours until it is due. How about that homework assignment due in two hours? Let me guess. You're going to procrastinate for another hour, right?
8. You are beginning to catch a cold.
If you are similar to me, you are lucky enough to have made it half way through the semester without getting sick. Unfortunately, most students on campus have not been that fortunate. Everyone seems to be catching a case of the sniffles or developing an unattractive cough and in turn, abandoning their responsibilities altogether.
9. You have mountain piles of laundry.
Lately, laundry doesn't even seem to cross your mind. You wait until you are down to your last pair of socks before you take the longest walk down to the laundry room.
10. You have a countdown until winter break.
You are anticipating that month long break that awaits you at the end of December and you cannot wait until the end of the semester.
