Being a dog mom can be very difficult at times, especially when people who have real live kids say "you're not a mom, you have a dog." Well yes, actually, my world does revolve around my dog. Here are 10 things all dog moms know to be true!
1. Your dog is your baby.
If you're a dog mom, you more than likely say, "I'm not having children, my dogs are my babies," more than twice a week.
2. You bring your dog any and every where.
Along with being your baby means you try to bring your dog with you by your side at all times. It is just expected that if you're invited, your plus one will be your fur baby.
3. Your dog has their own closet.
Admit it, your dog has more style than you do. Clothes for every occasion, if your dog isn't wearing that jacket or hoodie you just got them he/she looks naked in your eyes.
4. Shopping for you really means shopping for you both.
You know you're a dedicated dog mom when you find yourself wandering into the pet section of the store. You go out for a gallon of milk and somehow come home with doggy treats and new toys to surprise your little one with.
5. Date night? Don't you mean dog night?
Now this is a true dog mom problem, when planning activities you always check to see if dogs are allowed and if you don't find the answer you want, you find a way to sneak your dog into that local restaurant or movie anyway.
6. Your Pinterest is full of doggy DIY's.
Even if you can't cook for yourself, you still try to impress your little pooch with special homemade doggy donuts from a recipe you found while scrolling through the daily dog posts.
7. Your dog has their own social media platforms.
You tag your baby in events/pictures for all of their furry friends can see what they've been up to lately in the backyard. I mean, all the cool cats have Facebook so why can't a dog, right?
8. When you show up without your baby, most are disappointed.
Your dog is a part of you and when you show up without him everyone asks: "where's your baby?" "How's baby doing?" And sometimes even the occasional, "oh my goodness, is that really Rachel without her baby?"
9. Your bed isn't actually your bed.
You're simply a guest sleeping in their bed. The smaller the dog, the worse it is. I find myself on the edge of the bed or near the floor almost every night. Even though your pup has their own bed, they still choose yours.
10. You look forward to coming home from work/school to see their overly excited wagging tail.
Admit it, this is what you live for.
At the end of the day, a dog truly is a man's best friend. Let's face it friends, nobody will be more patient with your mood swings, cheer you up when you're feeling down or keep your secrets better than your dog.
