Well, another new semester has arrived. We all know what that means; new classes, new professors and yes, new assignments. While I'm sure most of you will be hard at work (thanks to New Year's resolutions to do better in school), there are those of us who will spend most of the first few weeks deciding which series we will spend the next two to four months binge-watching. And let's be real here for a second, we're all guilty of succumbing to the temptations of Netflix and Hulu from time to time. So why waste your time watching bad TV?
1. "New Girl"
This FOX comedy about a dorky, awkward girl who moves in with three single, equally quirky guys will have you laughing endlessly. Besides, who doesn't love Zooey Deschanel?
2. "Empire"
Another FOX favorite, this drama follows Lucious Lyon in his quest to be the king of hip hop, no matter the cost to his family. This show has a whole slew of talented singers/actors and a phenomenal soundtrack. And with only two seasons out so far, it shouldn't be hard to catch up on the drama.
3. "Scandal"
4. "Game of Thrones"
5. "Orange Is the New Black"
"That 70's Show"'s Laura Prepon makes an incredible comeback in Netflix's Drama/Comedy, "Orange Is the New Black." This show gives an inside look into the lives of inmates of Litchfield Federal penitentiary, a minimum-security, women's prison, and it will make you wonder whether prison is really all that bad (Just kidding; try not to go to prison).
6. "Grey's Anatomy"
After 11 seasons and season 12 in its mid-season recess, they must be doing something right. This show will make you feel emotions you didn't know existed and have you speaking like a surgeon in everyday vernacular. If the power-duo of Patrick Dempsey and Eric Dane isn't enough to convince you that this show is worth watching, I don't know what will be. Warning: this show may cause a desire to switch your major to Pre-med. This side effect is temporary. Also, on a side note, Shonda Rhimes, I love and hate you at the same time; you've done it again, *insert crying face emoji*.
7. "House of Cards"
8. "One Tree Hill"
This 2000s series is great on so many levels. Never have I ever been so emotionally invested in fictional characters' lives than I was when watching this show. You're guaranteed to love it; I don't care who you are (I can name at least six guys who will admit this is their favorite show of all time). But if a well-written plot line and relatable characters aren't enough to convince you, a shirtless Chad Michael Murray might do the trick.
9. "Sherlock"
BBC's contemporary twist on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective series is as clever as it is interesting. Benedict Cumberbatch's witty character, Sherlock, with the help of his sidekick, Dr. Watson, solves mysteries and crimes all around England, while surely making everyone wish they were as smart as him. It will be hard to stop watching this modern adaptation of a classic.
10. "Breaking Bad"
There's a reason this show has won too many awards to count. After five seasons and an emotional finale (though false rumors spread news of a 6th season, getting fans hopes up for nothing), "Breaking Bad" has amassed a large following of action lovers and chemistry fanatics alike. It is the perfect balance of danger, drama and science, not to mention Walter White makes cooking and selling meth look easy.
11. "The Walking Dead"
Though I haven't watched this one, I have witnessed my roommate blow through eight episodes a day until she finished it. Even if zombies and gore aren't your thing, AMC's "The Walking Dead" is sure to keep you watching until the very last episode.
