"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight." 1 Peter 3:3-4
Relationships are complicated; they always have been. As time passes, things change, and it's clear that the structure and reality of finding love has too. It is more common to meet someone because you follow them on Instagram or because you matched with them on Tinder these days. I don't know if it's just me, but I find that pretty sad. I always dreamed of a love story like I saw in Disney movies growing up. Every girl dreams of that perfect guy and the perfect story of how they fell in love.
Even though it seems nearly impossible to find your Prince Charming, you should never settle for a guy that doesn't value you for who you truly are. Don't settle for a guy that only wants to see you late at night. Don't settle for a guy that doesn't respect you or your values. Don't settle for a guy that views you as nothing but an option. I remember growing up and having my mom tell me to never settle, and you shouldn't either. Here is why.
1. You deserve so much more
No matter who you are, what you look like or where you're from, you are beautiful and deserve the world. If a guy doesn't make you feel beautiful and perfect in your own way, he is not good enough for you. Don't settle for that guy that talks to 10 other girls at the same time as you. Don't settle for the guy that ignores your calls when you need someone to talk to, because let me tell you something sweetie, you deserve so much more than he could ever give you.
2. It's not worth your time
Yes, guys have a way of knowing what to say at the right times. It has happened to every girl out there. We found a guy that we thought was the one. He called us pretty and maybe he even introduced us to his friends. All of that made it seem so real until you found out he had been saying the same things to someone else. Don't waste your time on someone that only brings you down. Push him aside, put on some lipstick and move on. Spend your time on things that make you happy. Work out, go on a trip, have a girls night and don't let someone that hurt you bring you down.
3. Self-worth is way more important
When things in a relationship go wrong, so many things can go through your mind. Everyone has different situations that can cause such a wide range of feelings. I find it common to see a girl lose herself in a relationship and that is never a good thing. If things go wrong, so many bad things can happen. Nothing is worse than seeing someone lose their self worth. It is so much more important to see your value and to love who you are than to settle for a guy that makes you feel like you are worth less than what you truly are.
4. You'll lose who you are
Being with some one that wants you to change in any way is not a good thing. The guy you're with should adore everything about you. He should value your opinions and respect your morals. If he wants you to change anything, he isn't the right one. You're the way you are for a reason and you should never lose it, especially over a guy.
5. You could miss out on the right guy
If you spend all of your time on a guy that treats you wrong, you could end up passing up an opportunity with a guy that is worth your time. Sometimes we worry too much about the wrong guy and pass up a chance with a guy that has all the right qualities.
6. Being single is not that bad
Take it from a girl that has not had good luck with relationships, being single is honestly pretty great. Don't be afraid to go out and have fun with your friends. Take your days as a single girl and make them all you want them to be. It's better to be single than to be with a guy that is anything less than what you want.
7. Life is too short to worry
If you are concerned about a guy cheating on you or doing something that would upset you, you should definitely move on. Spending your time worrying is the last thing you should be doing. Relationships should bring you nothing but happiness and worrying is the farthest from that. Life is way too short to worry, especially over a boy.
8. Settling is a choice made out of fear
I get it. Sometimes it gets scary to think you'll never find the right guy. That is a common reason that girls seem to settle for guys that are the farthest from what they want. Fear should not be the reason you are with a guy. You should be with someone that makes you happy. You should be in a relationship because it's all you imagined it to be.
9. Things take time
If you're patient, I promise the right guy will come around. Waiting sucks. Trust me, I know. It seems like good will never come, but I promise it will. Don't settle just because it feels like time is passing and you're still boyfriend-less.
10. You are simply too good for that
When it comes down to it, you are just too good to settle for less than you deserve. No girl should be with a guy that doesn't treat her like a million dollars. No boyfriend should make you worry or make you feel anything less than beautiful. You are too good to settle, so don't.
I know how it feels to care about someone so much that it hurts. I get that sometimes you just want to see the best in that guy that you want to be the right one. It hurts to face it, but he's probably just not the right one. If you feel doubt, worry about him being with another girl, or feel slightly unsure about how he feels about you, he isn't right. Don't waste your time trying to change him when he just simply isn't for you. It's not your fault that it didn't work out. It doesn't make you any less beautiful and it doesn't mean you'll never find the right guy.
You are gorgeous. You are smart. You are fun. You are driven. You are compassionate. You are so many beautiful things and some day you will find someone that sees that. Walk away from the person that doesn't see those amazing qualities you have. Smile and live your life feeling valued and respected. Take it one day at a time and the right guy will come around. Things take time. Just do one thing; never, ever settle for less than you deserve. You are worth so much, and you should never forget that.
