Theater kids, aka the greatest people you will ever met. Everyone should have at least one friend who does theater in their repitoire of friends, after all we tend to be the life of the party. Even if we aren't as extroverted as others we are still pretty rad to keep around. Here are 10 reasons why you should be friends with a theater kid.
1. We burst into song.
This is one of the more stereotypical attributes but you'll find that theater kids always find a way to nudge a show tune into daily life. Whether they are feeling the grip of unrest and rebellion and begin singing Les Miserables or whether there is some sort of "loathing... unadulterated loathing. For your face, your voice, your clothing" (Wicked). Occasionally we also burst into the choreography to the songs as well.
2. We have so much makeup.
For the most part, theater kids have bags upon cases, upon bags upon trunks of makeup. Foundation we have about five different shades within our skin tone, dozens of tubes of waterproof mascara and eyeliner (you would not believe how much eyeliner we accumulate). Also, the majority of us have wicked skill at applying it since we are constantly applying it to ourselves and cast members.
3. Wardrobe malfunction.
The seasoned theater kids always carry safety pins, a sewing kit, or hot glue. And yes, I have personally witnessed someone whip out a hot glue gun from their purse to fix a flower falling off a hat. Needless to say, we also carry those pens that help remove stains because we have all had to deal with the makeup on costume issue. So if you have a wardrobe malfunction, find one of us because we have got your back.
4. We can fix sore throats.
You have a tickle in your throat? Well first stay 10 feet away so I don't get sick because I have a show next week, but this one time I did get sick right before a show and I tried everything in the book to heal my body. No doubt about it the theater kids can heal a throat and know the exact brand of tea, where to purchase it, how long to brew, add lemon or no, and always use honey. We will do everything not to get sick so we tend to have some wacky advise, but hey, I swear it works.
5. Need a bobby pin?
We also hoard bobby pins like there is no tomorrow. Bobby pins are always needed and they always have a way of magically disappearing. For some reason other than necessity we always have a bobby pin in our possession.
6. We are perfect for group projects.
Since we are used to going in front of audiences to portray characters we are very good at giving the presentations and improvising if someone blanks on what to say. Not to mention most theater kids are naturally good leaders and supporters because of the constant jobs we take on during shows.
7. We have odd talents
For some reason we all have a zany talent or talents. Whether it's an impression, or saying tongue twisters at rapid rates, or managing to pull both feet over your head and walk. It's one of those weird things that is both fun to watch and then say that you know someone who can do whatever the talent is.
8. Snacks.
Rehearsals can run at odd times so we always have snacks on us. Breath mints, chips, pretzels, fruit snacks, we always have something. It also turns into a habit of always having copious amounts of snack in our possession that we turn into squirrels.
9. We are MacGyver
To preface this, MacGyver was a show from the 80s about this guy who could build or fix anything from random objects. Theater kids have crafted and master the art of MacGyver-ing any situation. We have to fix props with zany solutions so we have developed a knack for how to fix things with only this, that and the other thing.
10. We are fun overall
I mean we are pretty cool people regardless and it's fun to keep us around. After all there is never a dull moment in theater.
