I’m sure anyone can agree that college is amazing and you never want it to end. Being in college is nothing like home, which is usually a good thing. However, sometimes when school, exams, friends and everything hits you hard at once, all you need is a weekend home. For me, going to school a plane ride away makes this really difficult. So on the off chance that you're not doing anything one weekend, flying home is the perfect move. Here are nine reasons why a weekend trip home is exactly what you need.
1. See your pet
Probably one of the hardest things about college is not being able to see your pets. Since my dog obviously can’t talk, keeping in touch with them while at college is basically impossible. Facetiming with my dog or having my mom send me 10,000 pictures is just not cutting it. So basically you should probably go home for the weekend just to see your dog if anything. Long distance just isn't cutting it anymore.
2. Sleep in your own bed
Although I do happen to love my bed at school considering i made sure to buy the best mattress pad I could find, there's nothing like a good sleep in your own bed at home. I don’t know why but I will never sleep the same at school as I do at home. Going home even gives you the perfect time to catch up on all your sleep, and in your favorite bed.
3. Have a nice clean shower
There is nothing like coming home and taking a long hot shower in your own bathroom, without wearing shower shoes, and actually feeling clean afterwards. Best thing ever.
4. Have someone do your laundry
Coming home is like christmas for your parents. So when your mom first sees you, she's willing to do anything, she’ll probably even volunteer to do your laundry. No more struggling to find quarters, or being to lazy to bring your laundry down and actually do it, your mom is probably for the first time ever more than happy to do your wash.
5. Home cooked meal
Nothing is worse than going out every night, or eating in food halls for a whole school year. Coming home allows you to finally have a real, home cooked meal.
6. See your family
Of course coming home allows you to see your family. Your siblings and parents have probably never been happier to see you. And you even get to see your grandparents. Family dinner was actually missed.
7. Beauty essentials
Your nails, hair and eyebrows have probably never looked worse than when they do at school. I don't know about you, but there aren't many places in Madison, WI to get a good haircut, or a good mani-pedi that is less than $50 and not a 15 minute car ride away. You can finally catch up on your beauty essentials once you come home.
8. Catch up on old shows
With all the work you are constantly doing at school, you most likely don't have time to binge-watch your favorite netflix shows. And you may not even have cable to keep up with all of your favorite shows currently playing. And that one hour that you get off to watch one episode, you’re probably not enjoying it because you’re thinking about all of your school work the whole time. When you’re home for the weekend you can cuddle up on the couch and binge watch every show you love, and catch up on all of your current shows, without a worry in the world.
9. Catch up on your work
Although you probably came home not to do your school work, once you’re at home you’re much more calm and relaxed, so sitting down to do one homework assignment that is due fairly soon is so much easier.
Last and one of the most important, laying low. Coming home and finally being able to do nothing is the best feeling. Having no responsibilities, no work, no going out, just relaxing and getting some rest, hanging out with your dog and family and catching up on everything you’ve missed. This is always the feeling of home.
