If I'm being honest here, I never truly grew out of my "emo phase" from middle school to early high school. Sure, as time went on and some groups disbanded and parted ways, I stepped out of my colorful pants, did away with my colored clip-on extensions and toned it down with the black eyeshadow. But even as the years passed, one thing has always remained the same.
I still freaking love Brendon Urie.
For those who are unaware, Brendon Urie is the lead singer of the band Panic! At the Disco, and is the only original member of the band left since their formation in 2004. He may be married now (and really, his wife is absolutely gorgeous and super awesome so there's no hate to be found here) but that does not put a damper on my feelings whatsoever.
Here are a few reasons as to why I love this dork, and why you should, too:
1. He keeps it real.
Brendon doesn't really sugarcoat his words. And that's not to say he isn't nice or anything. It just means that he's not going to dance around the things he truly wants to say, especially when it comes to his music.
2. He's a freak of nature.
Not adhering to social norms is basically how this guy lives. And it's glorious.
3. His vocal range is out of this world.
Can we talk about those notes? I can't even think about them without wanting to cough. Honestly, he could scream into my ears until they bleed and I would be so thankful.
4. He doesn't really give a sh*t.
At least, he doesn't for the haters or for the minuscule stuff, like walking around with a parasol or doing weird things in public or for the public to see (see his Vine account for more details.)
5. But when he does give a sh*t, he really means it.
I love you, too.
6. Honestly, he's actually a sweetheart.
He's a BAMF on stage, and sure OK maybe's he can be a BAMF offstage, too...but he truly cares about his fans and celebrates our weirdness. Often times I believe this is why P!ATD fans get along so well.
7. He's a dog person.
Figures, since he's an actual puppy himself.
8. He always seems to be having a great time.
And he probably is. Point is, I'm always smiling whenever I listen to Panic! songs, watch music videos or just raid his Vine account because he can always make me laugh.
9. He always supports his friends.
I consider it a sign of his humbleness that he never ceases to thank and give shoutouts to his friends, whether they're also in the music business or not.
10. His passion for music is inspiring.
I may not have that much musical talent myself, but the passion that he has for his own art is absolutely inspiring. It encourages me to follow my own path and my own dreams and fight through the harder moments in life. Because I know, whatever happens, I will be victorious.
