10 Reasons Why Laundry Is Life

The washing machine of life is relentless, but at least it cleans your clothes.

10 Reasons Why Laundry Is Life

"Life is like a box of chocolates" has never been less true. Chocolate is good, and sometimes full of more gooey goodness, and even if it's bad chocolate, it's still chocolate!

Life is like laundry. It's messy, a nuisance, but it can also be a good reminder that you've got a sense of fashion. Here is a list of how your pile of dainties and yesterday's adventures is just like life itself, the good and the bad.

1. A Pile of Responsibilities

Just like responsibilities, laundry goes unattended to until absolutely necessary. Procrastination is the name of the game, and if that means having to wear the same underwear three days in a row, then so be it. No shirts left? Well, I guess it's warm enough outside. No pants? Are pants ever required? Think about it.

2. A Representation of Material Wealth

Did you ever realize you have enough underwear to last a whole month? Well, now you do, and you also have a month's worth of laundry to do. Bask in the glory that is material wealth, and you'll pay the ultimate price, both in time and in detergent.

3. A Calendar

By now, you can probably measure how long it's been since you've done laundry by how tall the pile is on your floor. I've started to mark my wall like I have a small child. She's turning three months tomorrow!

4. Financial Instability

The best representation of your finances comes in the form of socks. Sometimes you have many socks, but somehow, this number dwindles down until you only have one sock. What happened to all my fancy feet-gloves? How am I to pay rent and fix my car? I only have 25 socks in my account!

5. An Alarm

Set the timer on that dryer, and anxiously wait until it buzzes louder than a freight train. There's no time for napping and Netflix, there's laundry to fold!

6. A Memorization Aid

Because if you don't remember to take your clothes out of the washing machine, they will get moldy. And then you will have no clothes. And everyone will laugh. Learn from your mistakes.

7. An Organizational Tool

Laundry is like an organizational tool. It forces you to place things in an orderly fashion back into your dresser or closet. Or, if you're like me, into the "clean corner" of you room. That's all the organization I need in my house.

8. A Quick Response

We've all been there. We have no clothes left, but we only have 15 minutes to get ready and get out the door. Throw your body head-first into the mound of clothes at the foot of your bed and find a decent-smelling shirt. If need be, drench it in Febreze.

9. Good Luck

Do you ever need a quick $20 bucks, and you find some in that random pocket you never use on that jacket you never wear? Or maybe your breath smells bad, and you just happen to find a warm, linty mint in your sock. Well, some things are more lucky than others, but you get the point.

10. A Friend

It's late, you've been out drinking, and you are too tired to get to your bed. But look, you left some laundry in the dryer, and it's still warm. You can throw it on the floor and pass out knowing you're in good hands... or sleeves.

Life can have its ups and downs, just like laundry, but we get through it and we go on living. And we look fine as hell while we do. At least, when we've done our laundry.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
