I am fast approaching graduating my senior year of high school and if there is one thing I have learned in all four years, it's that high school really isn’t that scary. Movies usually portray a misleading and stereotypical scenario of what should be expected of high school and its students. Yes, high school is FULL of drama and tight knit groups, but that’s not all that goes on in high school.
1. FRIENDS
In high school you pretty much grow up with your friends. Your high school friends stick with you while you were absolutely humiliated by that one person you ever liked or dated. Also, somehow they were comfortable around you, whether you ate so much on any given night or a fast food run.
2. TEACHERS
I know I had those few teachers that I absolutely HATED, but there are also a few who stick out for being really great teachers. Don’t think that all teachers are horrible people; most are so nice and very lenient with grades, if i do say so myself.
3. KNOWLEDGE
I am going to a public high school, so I am pretty much going to school for free and getting a free education. I wouldn’t have known most of the things I know if I didn’t go to school.
4. FOUR YEARS
High school is ONLY four years. It may seem extremely long, but it really isn’t. Also, high school isn’t that bad so you can stick through it!
5. DRIVER’S LICENSE
So they make you take free classes so you can get your permit. I would say that is a win-win,
6. FIRST AID CERTIFICATION
Like a driver’s license, your first aid classes are free too, and you get to help people in desperate situations. I wouldn’t say that is a win-win, but it is if you actually succeed at helping someone.
7. TEACHER AID
So if you are having trouble learning something, a teacher can help. I know that most teachers actually stay for longer hours to get some school work done and would be glad to help you.
8. SPORTS
In high school you can join a sport. I joined Marching Band and it literally felt like a second family to me.
9. CLUBS
There are so many clubs in high school. If you don’t see a club that interests you, but find more people that would want that club, you can go to the principal and ask him for help with the club.
I know I joined so many clubs during my four years in high school and my college prospects must have LOVED it.
10. HOMEWORK
So yes, there is a lot of homework, but to be fair you do have more classes. Most homework takes about 2 hours a night or less, but it really isn’t that bad. Kind of a bad tip, but if you didn’t feel like doing it at home, you can do it in the class before if you know that you aren’t doing anything that day. I know I used that more than once.
