During one's freshman year of college, most everybody lives in a dorm. Some dorms have upgraded to have a private bathroom in which you and your roommate share, but some still have community bathrooms that you and all of your lovely hall mates get to share. Living in a dorm has been a unique experience that can either be the best or worst.

1. Dorms are the best because your hallmates will become your first friends.

You suddenly have 40 new neighbors after you move in that you want to make a good impression on. You want to make sure you all are cool enough to borrow each other's spoons or trash bags but don't want them to think they can walk into your dorm at any time.

2. Dorms are the worst because those new neighbors suddenly get louder and louder throughout the night.

Not sure if they turn into elephants and stomp around but they sure do not care about other people's beauty sleep. After some passive aggressive note exchanges, banging on the walls/ceiling, or complaints to the RA, things usually get better.

3. Dorms are the best because on most campuses you can walk to classes.

Oh, you woke up at 7:50 am for your 8 am? No big deal just throw on those sweatpants and bust into a brisk walk. You do not have to worry about commuting and them finding a parking spot! Just know what the temperature is outside before venturing out into the weather!.

4. Dorms are the worst because when you do actually move your car finding a parking spot within half a mile of your dorm is impossible.

Always alternating who is driving with your friends because moving your car really is the worse. After a long day of responsibility, the last thing you want to do is walk a mile to your bed.

5. Dorms are the best because it is your first living experience with somewhat freedom.

You no longer have to wake your mom up and tell her you are going to Wendys at 2 am or always have to be told your room is dirty. It gives you an opportunity to be responsible (ish) about your stuff.

6. Dorms are the worst because you have all of this freedom but still do not have total freedom due to RAs.

Some RAs are cool but some will write you up for sneezing too loud. Just hope you get a cool RA that you can become friends with and get away with things!

7. Dorms are the best because you get to have a sleepover with your roommate every night

Unless you are unlucky and get a roommate you do not like, it's so fun! You never get lonely and you always have somebody to talk to. Roommates just have to find a balance between everything.

8. Dorms are the worst because you have no privacy or much of any alone time.

Always putting in earphones to watch Netflix or having to worry about keeping your roommate up while you study really does get old.

9. Dorms are the best because it encourages you to be social.

Sometimes dorms will have little events for everybody to hang out and get to know everybody.

10. Dorms are the worst because sometimes you have to babysit your roommate

Let's say that your roommate had a little too much fun one night and comes home to you for you to take care of. You might have to take care of them which is not ideal !!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
