Within the next few days, my little brother will turn fifteen years old. Well, I guess he's not so little anymore. I cannot believe how fast time has flown and that the young man who now stands before me used to be the little kid who I ran around our backyard with. In honor of his birthday, I present this list of ten reasons why I believe being a big sister is the best job in the world.
1. No matter what the adventure or plan is, you can always count on your younger sibling to be your wingman or wing woman.
2. There is a natural sense of pride that comes with watching your younger sibling grow up, succeed, and chase his or her dreams. You know how amazing your younger sibling is, and you cannot help but tell everyone who will listen about them.
3. No matter how annoying he or she gets sometimes, your younger sibling will always be one of the first people you call when you have good news.
4. Passing down your wisdom is a necessary part of being an older sister. You were the "guinea pig" or "trial child", and now you are there to make sure your younger sibling makes fewer of the mistakes you made.
5. You can mess with your younger sibling anytime you want, but absolutely no one is allowed to mess with your younger sibling. Beware of an angry big sister!
6. You were never bored as a child because you and your younger sibling were wonderfully good at getting into all kinds of trouble together.
7. You could be having the worst day ever, but one conversation with your younger sibling can turn it all around. The two of you remember every inside joke and know just what to say to make the other feel better.
8. You've watched your younger sibling go through every awkward phase and have countless embarrassing moments. It's only natural to tease him or her about it once in awhile, especially when your younger sibling brings home his or her first significant other.
9. You can read your younger sibling like a book. You can instantly recognize the moment he or she is incredibly happy or upset about something.
10. Though the two of you are siblings by chance, you are lifelong friends by choice.
Love your siblings. They may drive you crazy sometimes, but at the end of the day, there isn't anything you would not do for them. Happy birthday, bro!
