High school is a tough place and if you don't have a great group of friends to help you survive through four years of it, good luck. When you do theater, you are working year round to put on two great shows. You stay with the same people through out the whole year and those people become your family. When you go away to college, the people in your high school theater club are the ones you miss the most. They are the ones you're used to seeing every day for at least twelve hours. Here are 10 reasons to be thankful for your high school theater club.
1. They will never make fun of you for spontaneously breaking out into show tunes.
You will always have a bunch of friends to break out into show tunes with and you will never have to worry about how stupid you look because no one is judging you.
2. They know not to mess with you during tech week.
They too are going through what we all know as "hell week". This is the week where everyone stays far away from each other and does not mess with the other person. The people who decide to mess with someone who is in tech week regrets that decision very quickly.
3. They understand the struggle of having homework during tech week.
The way theater kids see it, teachers assign no homework until tech week and then we are cursed with six essays, four presentations and two tests. Many other students think we are exaggerating when we have a daily meltdown, but other theater kids know our struggle and go through it with us.
4. They can never be replaced no matter how many different casts you work with.
No matter how many shows you do and casts you work with, your high school theater friends are the ones you see every day regardless of if you have a show or not. It is physically impossible to replace them.
5. They understand that theater is not always going to be like high school musical.
Many people assume that high school theater is like high school musical. They don't understand what it's really like and they often judge. Your theater friend have got your back and will always back you up.
6. You become so close with each other, you fight and act like a normal family.
When you work with the same people for anywhere from one year to four years, you start to become like brother and sister. You fight like brother and sister but you also love like brother and sister. The group establishes "drama mammas" and go to them for everything you would go to your mom for when your mom isn't there.
7. You feel like you can tell them everything because you're with them at least 12 hours, six days a week.
The amount of time you spend with the people in your high school theater club is an insane amount and you get to the point where you can tell each other everything, literally.
8. You have someone to share your dream of becoming a Broadway star with.
You can all fantasize what it will be like when you are Broadway stars and no one will judge you or say your dreams are to big because you all have the same dreams.
9. You will never feel alone.
You have a whole cast and crew of people that will show their love for you through out all four years of high school and every year after. You can always go to them for everything because they have seen you at your worst and at your best.
10. You will always be there for each other.
You will always have each others backs no matter what and you will never leave one rehearsal feeling unloved, judged, and not confident in yourself.
