10 Reasons to Love the Fall

Even though it means summer is over.

So maybe the coming of the fall means the end of a fun and free spirited summer and the beginning of another year of school, BUT that doesn’t make the season itself any less awesome for those who live in a season changing climate. Here’s 10 reasons why everyone loves to fall, even when they want to hate it.

1. The leaves

It’s true, even I choke up a little bit when I see the first leaf fall. It’s a sad fact that summer has to come to an end over and over and over. However, once the leaves reach their peak of color, those vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows can stop anyone in his or her tracks.

2. Sweater Weather

Just like we can’t wait for short season in march, sweater weather in September is another event that many are ready for right about now. Just imagine the chilly (but not too cold of course) breeze that makes a sweater so appealing. And the soft cotton or cashmere against your not-yet fading tan is a feeling like no other.

3. A break from the smoldering heat

The dorms at my school are lacking in air conditioning, which is making me relate to this one a little extra this year. The idea that soon enough the weather will be at a comfortable 55 – 65 degrees, will make going outside in jeans and a tee the perfect feeling. It’s about time that I can’t take that sweaty humidity anymore. But the best part is, it’s not quite winter yet, so we can enjoy being outside without worrying about pit stains.

4. Apple picking!!!!

Who doesn’t love filling a wicker basket with fresh apples in the fall? The answer is nobody! And not to mention it’s the perfect Instagram opportunity. Plus, apples make the best snack, whether it be a plain, crunchy apple or a fritter or a pie or (my favorite) apple crisp.

5. Fair Season

Fairs are the perfect way to extinguish that end of summer sadness. The endless rides, fried food and game booths can cheer up practically anyone.

6. Pumpkin EVERYTHING

Whether it be pumpkin carving, pumpkin seeds cooking in the oven, pumpkin pie, or pumpkin spice lattes, it’s hard to get enough pumpkin this season.

7. Pie

Let’s remember that pumpkin pie has friends. There are apple, berry, chocolate and peanut butter, and so many more. This delicious dessert is most prominent (and most delicious) in this lovely season.

8. Corn mazes

Though I feared them as a child, I have learned to love these just like many others. The idea of being surrounded in a life size maze just can’t be beat, and its only in the fall! Some can even enjoy the haunted mazes and I wish I could too, but being a wimp, the kiddie one is enough for me.

9. Change

It may sound cliché but it’s true, as the seasons change, so can anyone. For me it was cutting my hair and throwing myself into my writing and my studies. But with new beginnings comes new opportunities for everyone to become the person he or she has wanted to be for a while now.

10. Leaf piles

Trust me, I hate raking leaves just as much as the next person. But jumping in the pile at the end of it is so worth the work.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
