7 reasons you should be more comfortable with being uncomfortable
Sandglaz

All of us have our bubbles. They are small. They stretch from home to school, from family to close friends, from favorite song genre to favorite tv shows- and that is about it. The bubble is comfortable. It really is. It is warm and cozy and relaxing. There is nothing new to throw off your routine. I am here to tell you, however, that the bubble is not good for you. I dare you to pop it. Venture outside the normal. Brave the unknown. Take risks. Here are 10 reasons why comfort should be your worst enemy.

1. Life is more exciting when you live uncomfortably

The “normal” is boring. Change may be scary but it also gives you a little thrill in the every day. Taking a risk and doing something out of the ordinary gives you that pump of adrenaline that reminds you that you are still alive.

2. You gain different perspectives

If you stay coddled in your little bubble, then you will only ever see things from your own point of view. As humans, we tend to surround ourselves with people who are similar to us: similar interests, similar income, similar political views. This blocks out any different opinions or points of view from reaching us. But if we take a step outside of the little world we created, we will start to see things from different perspectives. We will see that other people’s point of views are as valid as ours. With this new knowledge, we can be formed into more sympathetic, open-minded, and generally tolerant human beings.

3. You learn to laugh at yourself

Uncomfortable situations can be painful. You are not used to this new experience, so it may be awkward or weird or even scary. But if you do it enough, you will learn to shake it off and just laugh at yourself for whatever new thing you fail at or awkward situation you get into.

4. It gets you out of a rut

Everybody has moments where they are unhappy with their current life. If you are stuck in a rut, get yourself out of it. You have the power to do it. I know it is harder said than done, but doing things that are out of your normal rhythm will help. Try new things. It gives you something to wake up for.

5. You learn more about yourself

Experience is the best way to learn. Life is about finding yourself; you cannot begin to understand who you really are until you venture outside of your comfort zone. Until you throw away everything you believe you know about yourself, you will never truly find who you really are.

6. You will be pushed to your limits

When you are uncomfortable, it pressures you to adapt. You will be pushed to learn and better yourself. You will take risks and you will fail but you will learn so much from your failures and you will come out of it a better and stronger person.

7. You might find something you love

It is great to have hobbies that you love or friends that you are very close to, but journeying outside your normal habits is something you should give a shot. You might just find an undiscovered passion or a best friend. It might just change your life. You’ll never know unless you try.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
