10 Reasons I Love Rohs Street Café

Rohs Street Café is a little coffee shop right off of UC’s campus. It’s a special place and I enjoy venturing over there to spend hours working on homework, watching music videos, drinking coffee with friends or wasting time people watching. The multipurpose of a coffee shop has always intrigued me, so I’m going to talk about 11 things that I appreciate about Rohs Street Café…

The Look of the Place. It is an old Clifton house converted into a spacious coffee shop. It is connected to an old church too; you can really feel the Holy Spirit while you sip on their java.

Always Playing Music. Background music is always present. So if you’re on a coffee date with that special someone there will never be awkward silence. Unless you’re unlucky enough to have your conversation stall while the song changes. Then everyone feels awkward.

The Baristas are Kind Souls. You’ll never feel rushed with the baristas. They aren’t in a hurry trying to get you to order so they can move on to the next one. They’re just genuinely kind people.

Last Week an A Cappella Group Interrupted Me. At the beginning of finals week, I was beyond stressed so I escaped to Rohs Street for some homework time. Usually I would be annoyed if someone or something interrupted me, but this time I was glad it happened. About twenty minutes after I sat down, people started setting up microphones and such on the stage. I was low-key terrified because I thought they were going to kick me out for an event, or make me pay to sit through something and do homework. However, I found out after a little while that a local a cappella group was going to perform. I decided to stay and listen, it was a pretty grand time. The café always has cool things going on, whether it open mic night, a cappella groups or poetry readings, I would suggest checking them out.

Good Coffee, Good Tea. All their drinks are quality. I usually get a “shot in the dark” or a latte, depending on my mood. Their muffins are good as well.

Strangers are Friendly. Some of the seating is rather close together, but unlike some people the strangers at Rohs are very nice. No one interrupts the others work, but creating casual and harmless conversation is always nice.

Wooden Floors. I like the wooden floors. I don’t know why, but I do.

Lots of Seating. As I mentioned previously the seats are sometimes close together, but there’s usually always a place to sit. Don’t be afraid of the strangers. they’re nice, remember?

Good Place to People Watch. Some interesting people come in to Rohs and it is fun to sit behind your laptop, pretending to work on something, but really just observe the people there. Creepy? Yes, 100%. But, it’s worth it.

It’s a Short Walk, But Still a Walk. I Like Walks. It’s fairly close to campus, just a few streets over. But, it’s about a mile away from my house. I enjoy the walk though; it’s relaxing to know I’ll be drinking coffee, listening to music and being productive in a couple minutes.

I recommend checking them out!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
