It’s now October and the #basics everywhere are ecstatic about it… at least for now. Here are the reasons we’re both overjoyed and eternally depressed about the recent calendar change.

1) Fall

Love: It is officially Fall. I think this one speaks for itself. Even though the official start of Fall was September 23rd, I think we can all agree that October epitomizes the season and is the real beginning.

Hate: This means summer is over and it’s time to get serious about schoolwork.

2) Starbucks

Love: It’s finally socially acceptable to order a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. If you are one of those people who has been ordering it since the beginning of September when it was still 80 degrees outside… unacceptable.

Hate: It is now socially unacceptable to get our favorite Iced Coffees and Starbucks refreshers. #RIP - We will miss you dearly.

3) Television

Love: Our favorite TV shows are back and we couldn’t be more thrilled to find out what Meredith is going to do post McDreamy. But in all seriousness, we have waited months for these to be back on.

Hate: With every season, these shows tend to get a little more ridiculous and we contemplate why we are still obsessed with watching them.

4) Weather

Love: We can all stop complaining about being hot and not having AC in our dorms.

Hate: We will now start complaining that it is cold and raining.

5) Clothes

Love: On the plus side of the changing weather, we can now wear our new fall wardrobe that we are #inlove with. Bust out the new Patagonia fleeces, Hunter rain boots, flannels, vests, sweaters, scarves, and of course, every basic bitch has to have their Bean boots.

Hate: Unfortunately, looking nice is a whole lot more time consuming in the fall than it is in the summer. It is not as easy as throwing on a tank top, nike pro shorts, and some flip flops anymore.

6) Apples & Pumpkins

Love: Heading to the orchards to go apple and pumpkin picking. This is the perfect time to go out and do these fun fall activities like, getting dressed up in flannels and vests and taking pictures with our #besties.

Hate: Having our news feeds blown up with “candid” pictures of girls sitting in orchards and fields. It gets real old, real fast.

7) Sports

Love: FOOTBALL!!!!! Although football season started a couple weeks ago, the season is in full swing now and October screams tailgating.

Hate: Still one more month till basketball season!

8) Fall Break

Love: Finally we get a break, can relax, and not have to worry about all the work we have been dealing with and can go home and snuggle with our pups.

Hate: Traveling home is the worst and while spending quality time with your family sounds good in our head, by the end, you’ll be begging to go back to school.

9) Food

Love: Pumpkin pie, candy corn, apple cider, and trick or treat candy!

Hate: How we feel after stuffing our faces with it and having no motivation to go to the gym and work off the extra calories.

10) Halloween

Love: Costumes, candy, and of course, some fun themed parties are always a great idea!

Hate: There will be so many themed parties that we will spend gross amounts of money on costumes and makeup, further draining our already non-existent bank accounts. Also, we hate how we insist on dressing like a slut and basically wear nothing, but then are surprised by how cold we are.

Honestly though, in October we will look outside and see how pretty it is. We will see all the colorful leaves and never even imagine not loving it… that is until a squirrel drops an acorn on your head. I’ll remember that one…

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
