In honor of my girlfriend Josie’s 17th birthday, here’s a list that only skims the surface of why my girlfriend is simply the best.
1. Worships the Living God
Josie was truly the person to show me what it means to worship God with all of who you are. Without fail, one of the highlights of my week every time is watching Josie worship God on Sunday morning. Passionate and joyful. What a blessing to behold.
2. Extensive Knowledge of Music
Josie has an encyclopedic knowledge of music. It’s actually quite uncanny. She listens to everything from Motown, Indie, to Hip-Hop Rap Musicals. Every week, she assigns an artist of the week for me to learn.
3. Style On Point
From cozy sweaters and fuzzy socks to bright dresses and cute gladiator sandals (no, not the knee high ones), Josie’s sense of style is undeniably praiseworthy. With the exception of my Darth Vader jacket (cape included), I never get an item of clothing without her consent.
4. Immensely Creative
If colorfully creative was an award, Josie would win it. No contest. A look through her sketchbook is a journey of bright color, impressive mark making, astonishing artistic progress, and a never-ending spirit of fun. On top of that, she’s an amazing painter. And animator. And is basically perfect.
5. Amazing Listener
Josie has this ability to listen to people better than anybody else. Something about her communicates that this person is to be trusted. If you’re not careful, you’ll be telling her your darkest secrets in a matter of minutes.
6. Pun Master
Valuable skill or punishable by banishment? Perhaps both.
7. World Class Hugger
There’s an art to hugging, and Josie’s mastered it. While I’d like to think that I have special insight on exactly how good her hugs are, Josie offers her amazing full body, full love hugs to anybody she loves. Which is basically everybody.
8. Taller than Me
At 5 foot 1 inch, I’m hard pressed to find any girl shorter than me. But contrary to my expectations, I enjoy Josie being taller than me. I fit right under her chin in a cozy little puzzle piece kind of way. Josie is the kind of person that makes you forget you have any sort of health issues or disability and simply loves you for who you are.
9. Best Smile Ever
When Josie smiles, her cheeks bunch up, her eyes glisten, and my heart melts. Enough said.
10. Loves Jesus
Finally and most importantly Josie has a burning love for Jesus Christ. She constantly points me to Christ and loves me well by loving God first. I couldn’t ask for a better girlfriend.
