10 Reasons I Hate Shoes

Walking around all day with shoes on is lame.

When it comes to my feet I would rather not have anything on them at all. If I could walk around without shoes or socks on I will gladly jump at the opportunity. But it's not socially acceptable in the U.S. to do that so I must suffer and wear shoes in public. The list of reasons I hate shoes can go on for days but I won't bore you with that may reasons; so here are my top ten reasons that I hate shoes.

1. High-quality shoes are expensive.

A pair of shoes that lasts more than two months cost about $40 or more. I don’t see the point in paying that much money on shoes that I may only wear a few times or not at all. I have a pile of shoes that just takes up space in my closet.

2. Each brand fits differently.

I wish I could walk into a shoe store pick up a pair of shoes in my size and walk out confident that they will fit. Shoe companies must find joy in making their shoes either a little bigger or a little smaller than the size on the tag.

3. There are different shoes for every occasion.

Heels, tennis shoes, boat shoes, flats, sandals, and crocs. Each shoe goes with a different occasion. Wear the wrong shoe for that occasion and you’re judged.

4. Matching our shoes to our outfits.

Black shoes don’t go with brown pants and vice-versa. Spending time matching shoes to the outfit you have on is a waste of time. I put on my comfiest shoes and I’m out the door. Do they match my outfit? I don’t care; they are comfortable!

5. Shoes are made out of many different materials.

Why can’t all shoes be made out of one thing? There are shoes made of leather, fabric, plastic, and rubber. Each fabric fits differently and some of them cause painful blisters.

6. Shoes hurt my feet.

I have wide feet. If I can’t find a shoe in a wide then I have to suffer through and stretch out my shoes. Breaking shoes in is a painful multiple day process.

7. If shoes get dirty it takes forever to clean them.

Cleaning shoes isn’t always easy. Some of them take forever. If you wash them in the washer and then dry them it screws up the shape of the shoe. If I walk around barefoot I can wash them off in minutes without messing up the shape of my feet.

8. Shoe laces are terrible

They break and fray. They are the cheapest and most easily broken part of the shoe. Plus tying shoes gets annoying; they are either too tight or too loose. I can never tie my shoe perfectly on the first try.

9. Each shoe has a season.

Ugg boots shouldn’t be worn in summer; crocs and sandals shouldn’t be worn in winter. While growing up I was always told by my father that it was too early for flip flops, even though the snow was all melted. Sounds like the perfect time to start wearing flip flops to me!

10. Shoes are just uncomfortable in general.

No matter how many different materials they use to make shoes comfortable they will never be as comfortable as naked feet. I don't want to walk on memory foam, rubber, or padding. Shoes will forever be uncomfortable and I have yet to find a shoe that proves otherwise.

Moral of the story is, I hate shoes. If it was socially acceptable I would walk around everywhere without shoes. For now, I will follow the social norms and do what society says is correct but one day I will walk around barefoot and proud!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
