It's arm day, but the weights you need to use are in the over crowded weight room. Not mention you can count how many girls are in there on your left hand. After my first year at SDSU, I can say that I have finally managed to feel comfortable walking into the weight room alone to do my workout. But I have talk to many girls who are intimidated and displeased by the thought of going into a room where it seems like males dominate.
These are some things I have to remind myself when I start to feel discouraged walking into the weight room..
1. Remember the real reason why you're at the gym!
It's hard to lose sight if what the main picture is when it is so easy to become distracted by the chaos surrounding you! Remember that you're here for you!
2. If people in the gym are judging you, they clearly are not they for the right reasons.
You shouldn't be getting judged at the gym. If you are at the gym putting in work, there is no valid reason anyone could have for judging you. At least you aren't sitting on your couch watching television!
3. Be confident in yourself!
When you are feeling intimdated by all the guys hoovering over your desired machines, don't be! Set your eyes on the prize (your machine/weights/desired space) and believe in yourself to push your comfort zone.
4. Remember that people do admire those who go into the weight room.
Those who are not busy judging others while working out really do have an appreciation for someone who is on their grind. If you are confident and focusing on yourself you'll be turning heads!
5. You are a strong independent woman who can rack her own weights..
Go get them, girl! Don't let those men overwhelm you and deprive your confidence to go into the weight room
6. Do the boys in there really are about what you're doing?
Like stated above, if someone is judging you then they are not at the gym for the right reasons. Most of the time, the guys in the weight will turn their heads when they see a girl walk in, but they will get over it and carry back into their workout.
7. You do not have to know exactly what you are doing.
You are going to the gym in order to learn how to exercise different parts of your body! Don't feel discouraged if the machine you wanted to try is in the weight room, you will have to learn sometime!
