10 Reasons It's Okay To Change Majors In College

We've all been there. You're past your gen eds and you're really starting to hate your major. Whether it be boring, too hard or a sudden realization of what you're truest meant to do with your life, here's 10 reasons why it's okay to change majors in college. It's a scary thing!

1. College is a time to find your passion.

I guarantee you've heard that line before from some professor or academic advisor. Don't ever feel like you have to do one thing for the rest of your life because somebody told you to. Do you!

2. Nobody is perfect.

So you made a bad choice, it happens. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, about 80% of college student have changed majors at least once. Do it five times if you have to!

3. Your education is your oyster.

College is not only the time to find your passion, but it's also an excellent time to explore and soak up as much as you can and learn anything you want to cram into that pretty little brain of yours. Intellect is the new sexy.

4. You're not having fun anymore.

If your major makes you want to pull out your hair and scream at the top of a volcano, why are you doing it?

5. Life would be easier.

As a pre-med student, I know that having a complex and intricate design to your major is considered impressive. But why major in Chemistry if you are absolutely disgusted by it? Check requirements for professional schools and change something to make your life simpler and your unique path will make your application more interesting.

6. Your friend's major is way cooler.

This is why it's important to have friends in college. They really do guide you to bigger and better things

7. You're not so good at that subject any longer.

High school is over and it's becoming clear that AP classes were not quite college par. Maybe you were amazing at math in high school, but if you're barely passing MATH1000 that should be a sign.

8. You're still undecided.

If you're edging into your junior or senior year of college, it probably a requirement at some point to pick a major because there's no degree in undecided.

9. There's always time for Plan B or even Plan C.

So maybe your first career choice didn't work out the way your thought it was going to. Time to whip out your next best option and ride the train to success.

10. Nobody knows you better than yourself.

College is a time for you to transition into adulthood and ultimately decide on your future fate. Make sure you stay happy and healthy (physically and mentally). If you're not in top condition, think about why. Is it your major?

Never doubt changing your major because it ultimately could be for the better. Or maybe you realize you were wrong to change and fall back in love with your old major all over again!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
