It's pretty awesome.

The first thing people usually hear when someone says they've changed their major is that the person is a slacker, fickle, or will be late in receiving their degree. None of this is true, and here's a few reasons why changing your major is the best thing you'll ever do.

1. It usually won't hold you back from getting your degree.

Depending on what major you're switching into and when you're doing it throughout your college career, you'll usually be right on track with everyone else. Your new advisor will work with you to make sure you can fit in all your requirements before graduation. Sometimes this means working over breaks, but usually it's pretty seamless. Even if it does take a little longer, it'll be something worthwhile.

2. There's NOTHING WRONG with changing your mind.

Who seriously know where they'll be in 10 years? There are grown adults that laugh at their bachelor's degree because they end up doing something completely different. If you find your passion, PURSUE IT. It'll make your college career a million times better.

3. You'll meet people with the same interests as you.

By switching into a major you love, you're bound to meet people with the same views and goals as you. This is so great for your self esteem because on those days when you're stressed and wondering if you made the right decision, you'll have a support system reassuring you that yes, this was the best decision.

4. You'll start enjoying school WAY more.

After you switch and start taking classes in your new passion, you'll find that you love going to class. There's something about pursuing something you really love that can't be found in a major you're not passionate about. Your friends might call you a total nerd, but you'll happily accept it as a compliment!

5. It helps mental health immensely.

Being in a major you're not sure you love can not only be stressful, but can turn in a minor mental existential crisis. Besides not enjoying the material, you'll start thinking, "What am I doing with my life?! Do I really want to do this?! I'm so stuck!" You're not stuck! After you change, a new sense of security will overcome you, knowing that you're doing something you love.

6. You're not alone!

You'll be surprised at how many people you'll meet that also switched majors. It's not an uncommon thing, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it!

7. College itself will be so much more fun.

Between making new friends, enjoying your classes, and becoming all-around happier, college will be a million times better. Yeah, you'll still stress over exams and actually going to your 8 am's - not everything can be helped - but you'll barely notice between smiles!

So before throwing in the towel and staying in a major you don't totally enjoy, consider switching to something that really sparks your interest. Research it, talk to staff, do a LOT of self-evaluation, and take the plunge - you won't regret it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
