After being at school for most of the year, coming home for three consecutive months can be hard to adjust to. You go from doing what you want when you want to following a schedule that reflects those of the people you live with. You have to adjust your normal routine and go back to helping around the house regularly. For most, this wouldn't really matter too much, but when you are on your own you can do things at your own pace, not at your mom or dad's pace.
1. At first, it just feels great to be back!
You get to spend time with family and friends and take some time to relax. You just finished your final exams and you are most likely thrilled to have the break! Plus, being back in your own bed doesn't hurt anything.
2. You get all of your stuff from school unloaded from the car and it takes over the house, because somehow, you ended up with more than you started with.
You ask yourself, "how is this possible?" "How did I accumulate three of the same shirts?" Maybe it was the online shopping habit you couldn't break? Oh well, there's no going back now. All that is left to do is somehow unpack it all and find somewhere for it to go. That shouldn't be hard, right?
3. Then you slowly start realizing what is actually in store for you...WORK.
You put on a brave face and push through, right? While yes, it will keep you busy, that's no fun, and if there is one thing most college students try to avoid at all costs, it's being an adult. There is nothing fun about it, and college is just a perpetual reminder that you can't escape your fate much longer.
4. You're working every day, making money, being responsible, and at night...
Even though you know what is coming next... more work.
5. Being back in your hometown means seeing the people you went to high school with.
Yes, you get to see your friends and spend much-needed quality time with them, however, there are those people you'd rather not catch up with. Let's be real about this, you probably weren't friends with all of those people, and there's nothing wrong with that.
6. And then there are the friends you missed so much!
I know that when I am at school, I am busy every week and most weekends. So when I come home for summer break, I can't wait to hang out with the people that I miss so much! The school year is busy and stressful, so taking a moment to relax and laugh until your stomach hurts is so important!
7. And then you remember that you work every day of your life.
Just when you remember the upside of being home, you get your work schedule and realize that it is going to be harder than you thought to make time to relax and see your friends. However, it is important to make the time for your self. Trust me, your sanity will thank you later.
8. Finally, a night out comes around!
You have a day off of work and want to make the most of it. You plan to go out and have fun! There's nothing wrong with that! You work hard and deserve to have fun too!
9. Then the next morning comes out of nowhere.
10. At the end of the day, it's all a part of life, and you just have to take it one day at a time!
So don't forget to be thankful for the time you have left at home, because before you know it, you won't have free meals, laundry done for you, and most importantly, FREE RENT!
I hope you enjoyed and good luck this summer!
