With all that is happening around the world, it is hard to keep a positive image on the future. We as college students are constantly reminded how hard it is to get a job after college or how hard it is to even save up for the future because of all the expenses that come with life. What is important and key to keeping a positive outlook on life and never giving up is to have faith in ourselves that when we get to that point in our lives where we have to worry about actually paying for our own necessities, we will know exactly what to do.
1. "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."
- Vince Lombardi
Partially included this quote because it came from our very own Vince Lombardi, but also because it teaches us a very important lesson. So many of us try to be what we think is "perfect" when in reality, no one is perfect. But trying to be perfect in a good way can make us perfect in our own way.
2. "Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
- Eleanor Roosevelt
Do not listen to the haters who try to bring you down. By subjecting yourself to the harsh criticism that may be thrown at you, you are allowing those people to win and giving them the satisfaction that they want from belittling you. Don't allow anyone the satisfaction of making you think that they are above you.
3. "Change your thoughts and you can change your world."
- Norman Vincent Peale
By opening our minds to different ideas, we are able to open up our possibilities to be successful. Once we open up our minds, we are capable of doing anything. By changing our worlds, we are able to change other people's worlds as well.
4. "When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been open for us."
- Helen Keller
This quote, I feel, gives a beautiful message. In life, we are bound to fail at some things and not get exactly what we had hoped to get. What we must realize is that we can't dwell on the past failures we have endured because it hinders our chances at success in the future. It also keeps us from potentially amazing, unexpected things headed our way. Live in the now and when you get thrown down by life, get back up and continue living the beautiful life you've been given.
5. "What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants."
- Bob Dylan
Money doesn't always lead to a happy life. Living the life you live as well as loving the life you live by doing the things you love and being surrounded by the people who love you is what a successful life is. Loving your life and living it the way you want to is what leads to success and happiness.
6. "When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life."
- John Lennon
When we were little, our main goal was happiness. Whether that be having playdates with friends or coloring in our coloring books with our favorite crayon, children find the best things in life that are the simplest things that lead to their happiness. They don't worry about what other people will think of them or what is ahead in the future. What we, as adults, need to learn is how to be happy again with the simplest things in life and how to find the good in bad situations like children do. We need to reteach ourselves how to be happy the way we were when we were little.
7. "Limitations live only in our minds, but if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless."
- Jamie Paolinetti
We should never limit ourselves to what we think we are capable of. Most of the time, we really surprise ourselves by what we can do when we try. All we have to do is believe in ourselves and not limit ourselves.
8. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away form safe harbor, and catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover."
- Mark Twain
What matters the most is that we try to succeed in everything we want to succeed in even if we don't know whether or not we can succeed. Failures never make us happy, but not taking chances and never knowing what could've been is even worse.
9. "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination."
- Jimmy Dean
Sometimes life throws curveballs at us that we do not expect and don't know how to handle. Some of the things that happen to us are out of our control and there is nothing we can do about them. What we can control is our attitude toward them. If we allow bad things that happen to us bring us down then we are bound to more disappointment and failure. By looking on the bright side and hoping for the best, we are bound to get back on the track to what we had previously strived for and are that much closer to success.
10. "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
I believe that the things that happen to us throughout our lives, whether good or bad, are meant to happen to us. The things that happen to us today are supposed to happen because they shape us into the people we were always supposed to be.
