10 Post-Election Self-Care Tips
Daily Mail

It's no secret that tensions are running high in America post-election. In the wake of a shocking, divisive event, it's important that everyone take the time to care for themselves and remain healthy. Maintaining a healthy mind and body is a form of resistance, and you come first.

1. Don't feel obligated to engage in political discussion.

Dialogue must and will happen. For now, however, if talking about the president-elect makes you uncomfortable or agitated, you are allowed to back off.

2. Sleep well.

Personally, I fell asleep on the floor of the living room on the night of the election. If you too have lost sleep over this, take the time to sleep in a few days and get to bed early. You can't be the best version of yourself when you're exhausted, and America needs active, healthy neighbors.

3. Start taking your vitamins.

We all fall off of this wagon. While we're focusing on ourselves, let's take the time to restart our vitamin regimen.

4. Laugh every now and then.

If you have to watch bad comedy movies or read the comics in the Sunday newspaper, do it. Laughter heals the soul.

5. Turn off the news and step away from social media.

Some of what is featured in the news right now is unnecessary rehashing of the same issues. It is okay to disengage from media for a while. Reconnect with the real world that you come in contact with every day and the people who matter to you.

6. Pray, meditate, or simply breathe mindfully.

Whatever gets you relaxed, do it. Try slowing down at least once a day to gaze inwardly and give yourself a little, "hey, how's it going in there?"

7. Reach out to those around you. Build a support system.

We all remember that feeling on Nov. 9, when we looked into our friends' eyes as if to say, "I know." Take it a step further. Reach out to those people. Grab a cup of coffee or just offer a nice hug. It'll benefit the both of you.

8. Take a walk outside.

Sometimes nature can remind us that not everything in this world is scary or harsh.

9. Get creative.

Not everyone considers themselves an artist, but being creative can be therapeutic for people of every skill level. You can paint, draw, journal, sing, dance... Just find a way to express yourself.

10. Ask for help.

If you continue to struggle with caring for yourself and being the best version of yourself, please seek professional guidance. Know your resources and utilize them. You are a strong, worthy human being, and asking for help does not change that.

Stay strong, friends. Without healthy individuals, America cannot be a healthy nation.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
