10 Popular Board Games that Describe College Life

Everyone loves a good board game every once in a while. But have you ever felt like your life is just one big game? Here are ten board games that perfectly describe moments in the life of a college student.

1. Dominoes
You know those really bad days when you feel like things just couldn’t get worse? You have to wake up early for an 8 am, trip on your way to class, forget your notebook, fail a quiz, then get your period to end the day off more horribly than it started. It’s like Dominoes: once one part of your day goes wrong, the rest falls down from there. It’s amazing how quickly you can feel like your life has gone to shambles. Don’t worry though, you’ll reach the end of the line of dominoes and your day will stop tumbling into disaster…eventually.

2. Guess Who

You’re walking across campus to get to class and someone waves at you. Crap, what’s their name? You then call them by the wrong name. Awkward. Keep guessing!

3. Sorry!

We all have those nights. You know, that night when you got so drunk, made out with your best friend’s crush, and came home and ate all of your roommate’s snacks. Then you wake up in the morning and…well, crap. Sometimes all you can say is, “Sorry!”

4. Monopoly

Some days you feel like the semester is never going to end. It’s dragging on and on, just like the game of Monopoly. Has anyone ever actually finished a game of Monopoly? Let’s hope we can finish the semester.

5. Twister

Put your right hand on green. Now put your left foot on yellow. Next move your right foot to red. Oops, that spot’s taken – move again! Right hand on blue! Don’t fall! You have to have excellent coordination and even better balance to be a winner at Twister. The same goes for the game of college. If you can't balance all your activities, schoolwork, and social life, you'll probably end up laying face-first on the floor just like when your right hand slips off blue. College is “the game that ties you up into knots!”

6. Connect Four

You're feeling really good about your grades (for once). You've nailed the past three tests in your economics class and you're ready to ace the final. Nope, try again! The professor blocks you with a super hard test. Ugh, you were so close to that 4.0.

7. Trivial Pursuit

We all have those professors who insist on us remembering little trivial facts about their subject. And the typical student response? WHO CARES! How someone knows the answers to Trivial Pursuit questions is beyond me. But if you’re someone who’s good at this stuff, I’m extremely jealous.

8. Pictionary

Ever get stuck with those professors that like to assign projects that require you to draw or have some sort of artistic ability? …And it’s not even an art class… Hope the professor likes playing Pictionary! Because that’s what he or she will be doing when trying to interpret what the random lines drawn across the paper are supposed to create. Lucky for them, there’s not such a short time limit while grading. Unfortunately for us though, if the professor can’t guess what we drew, well… there goes our grade.

9. Mouse Trap

We've all been referred to as guinea pigs at some point in our lives. But really, in college we're all just mice. Who can make it through alive without getting caught in a trap?

10. The Game of Life

Well, I think this one's pretty self-explanatory.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
