1. Breathe. Everything that seems like a big deal freshman year doesn't always seem like that years from then.
2. You will make friends every single year of college. Your freshman year friends are not going to be your only friends. Even if it feels like that, don't worry about the uncertainty.
3. Grades do matter freshman year. It's hard to catch up later on, so try your best to find the balance between having a great college experience and doing well in your classes.
4. It's okay to not know what job you will have in the future. Seniors have a hard time knowing that as well. Uncertainty is inevitable at every step of life.
5. Go to Career Services! They have so many resources that Rutgers students forget about. Start editing resumes, practicing interview skills and looking for internships as soon as possible! Career Services is probably one of the most underrated resources on campus.
6. Do not spend your time complaining about all of bad things at Rutgers, AKA the "RU Screw." The more time you complain, the less time you have to enjoy your freshman year.
7. Talk to your professors! When senior year comes, you will wish you made connections with professors. These are the people who will help with internships, letters of recommendations and research. Do not underestimate the importance of going to office hours (even if it's just to introduce yourself).
8. Don't ever think of yourself as a number. Rutgers is a huge school, and it is natural to become lost within a crowd. However, don't feel like an outsider. You are only a number if you think you are!
9. Join any club that you find even a little bit interesting. The only way to make a big university small is to place yourself in a smaller community.
10. Make mistakes. So many mistakes. When you look back, those are the best memories. They serve as learning experiences in disguise.
