10 Perks Of Family Visits At College

Whether you admit it or not, you know you miss your family.

10 Perks Of Family Visits At College

Every college student greatly anticipates the arrival of their family for the weekend. Our life has become filled with classwork, loads of homework, hanging out with friends, and working. The short talks on the phone with your parents don't cut it. It's a glorious moment when they hop out of the car and you get to embrace for the first time in months. It's strange how we used to wish we could have time away from our family and now we can't wait for the small times together. I've put together a list of the top parts of the visit we enjoy the most.

1. Free groceries!

The fridge finally gets to see food in it! There isn't a better sight in the world then a fully stocked fridge.

2. Confirmation that you're still alive.

You've been gone for months at a time. They finally get to see that you are still alive.

3. Faces get put to stories.

You've told your family stories from college but now they get to meet the characters in the stories that make them that much better.

4. Friends get to see the origin of the weirdness.

We all know you're weird. When family comes, your friends get to see where the weirdness came from.

5. They get to see your home away from home.

For the first time in your life you get your own place. Your parents have to be curious about what you do to the place to add your special touch to it. Take pride in your new home!

6. You get to try out new restaurants in town.

There's always that restaurant you've wanted to eat at but your bank account says "no." This weekend is the time to try the delicious food you've greatly anticipated.

7. You become a tour guide on campus.

With your newfound knowledge of campus over the first couple quarters/semesters, you become a tour guide sharing your information about campus to family. You get to add your own input about certain buildings and sculptures a normal tour wouldn't give.

8. You have the drive to clean your room (for once).

Your room has been a dump all year long until the night before parents come to visit. There's a big motivation to show your parents how responsible you are with your clean space.

9. Did I mention free food?

Us college students never pass up the opportunity for free food. We take it as a gift from the heavens.

10. You get to spend a weekend with loved ones.

Whether you admit it or not, you miss your family the most at college. You have friends here but they don't seem to fill the shoes your family has on you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
